Why is this happening? Any idea?

Hey Folks,

Can anyone provide ideas as to why this has occurred. The seedling seems to start off just fine and then the leaves wilt and it dies. It’s in a hydro environment using clay balls. My PH and PPM’s are as per what is recommended.

I have to ask why is there green hydroton?

I thinks t’s algae because they aren’t covered. I’ve had this occur in other grows in the past.

What kind of light are you using? What height do you have it at and what are your temps?

Distance to liquid from bottom of net pot, is a top feed going, how much air in liquid? Please be detailed: this will help us help you.

Light is a 400w MH for grow. It’s about 50cm away from the seedlings. Water temp is 31c and air temp is 32c.

Seems a little close for the light and the sprout looks kinda burned up. Don’t do hydro but I’d kick the light up another 30-40cm or so, a 400 watt MH is a bit much for sprouts.

This is twice as high as you should be running for a month old plant. Your plant is burned by nutes.

Way way way too hot. Your nutrient solution is going to go rancid right away and promote root rot. Algae indicates plant is getting too much solution and damping off as well.

I’d ditch this as a waste of time and money. These do not work.

Is there air being pumped into nutrient solution? If so; how much?

Show the whole system. And explain all parts of it.

A pic helps.

Start by cleaning algae away.

Drop ppm to 250

Water temperature needs to be 20°c or below.

Please provide pictures of system as all of the above have stated. I also agree water temp too high, ppm too high, back off nutrients, system appears to need a good cleaning from the appearance of the drip/feeding ring, there should not be algae on your hydroton, even appears to be algae on what I think to be rockwool.

Tap water here has a PPM well over 250 it’s 750-800. Not sure where you live but man the water is good. Let me guess it has a PH of 5.5. Sorry not here. Try 7.0

Flushed system both sides.

Have reduced the PPM/EC on the germination side of my system to an PPM/EC of 1000/1. The PH is 5.5 -5.8 Can’t do much better. If less the is no nutrients for them to grow.

Can’t reduce water temp as I live in a hot environment, Not putting an air con and water cooler in there. Seriously?

I’ll leave you to your own demise.

Good luck !!

Thanks for your input.
