Transplant marijuana to softer soil

A question from a fellow grower:

I need to know if it is at all possible to transplant a plant that is in very hard dirt to more suitable soil without shocking the plant to much?

Also is it possible to shake the hard soil off of the roots a bit?

Is it in a pot or in the ground? If it’s in the ground, then by digging it up it will almost definitely shock the plant. It may recover but it may take some time and will almost surely stunt it’s size in an outdoor grow. if it is in a pot, but is doing well for the most part, i wouldn’t worry too much about getting off the old hard soil, just transplant the entire root-ball/dirt-clump to a larger container with the better soil mix added around the dirt-clump. removing soil will always be some stress and damage to the root system, especially with hard compacted dirt.
