I have been measuring ppm in the water before feeding and notice that is lowers the ph quite a bit so then I have to adjust the ph to the 6.5 and then the ppm goes up. Is this normal?

Yes. Because you are adding chemicals to the water so it raises the TDS @hippy4life
I never check the TDS until the pH is set.
