Open challenge for lighting

Would like to issue a challenge for a grow off against someone using LED lights. Blurple, QB, cob, doesn’t matter. I will be using a 1000w MH/HPS light. One light, one plant. If you’re scared, say “SCARED”

Scared :scream:

I’d like to do this sometime, but I am still struggling to keep my supply up to meet the demand of me and my wife’s usage. Can’t do one plant at a time yet. Once there is like to do more experimentation

i ain’t skeered, i m too dumb to be skeered.!

wish i had an empty house, i would take that challenge with 945w of QB.!!
it’d be nice to see an indoor grown 3 lb plant.!!

your 1000w HPS grown plant can go 2+ pounds, it is gonna be a beast.!!
no, it is gonna be a beastly BEAST.!! mwah hah hah.!

u r gonna need a big ass RDWC or a 50 gallon pot of ‘soil’.! LOL

just a suggestion, try to fill a 3.5’ x 5’ area, 17.5 sq ft, 57 wpsf,
HPS light spreads further from the sides of the bulb,
lollipop the bottom to get 18-22" of canopy depth,
try to keep the center of the canopy lower then the edges, the heat is in the center.!

Is that 945w at the wall?

yes, 7 HLG 135w V2’s,
about 100w less then a HPS at the wall.!

1080w of QB would be a watt for watt comparison and better fit a grow space.!
a possible 3.5 pounds of finished bud.!!!

You gonna let me use my entire 3’ x 6’ raised garden bed under a scrog net, to grow one plant under 2x HLG-260s ?

That’s a 150 gallon pot. Probably compensating for something. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

@BlackShirt,
i bet u’d give him a good run, that HPS system better be tuned in.!!

My 5X10 room has two 1000 watt HPS. Here’s my current grow of two plants of banana kush at day 30 of flower. Nice challenge

Sounds like your challenge is not for beginners… I doubt any true beginner using LED will know how to properly set up to compete with you…

That would not be an equal comparison, as far as I understand it. I keep hearing that the 600w led is supposed to be equivalent of a 1000w HPS. I’m just trying to figure out if they are worth the expense.

I’m just a beginner myself.

150gal pot for what?

I’m not saying I can grow better than anyone else, I can’t. I just want to see what the LEDs do. The manufacturer’s say “equivalent to” a 1000w HPS. I have a HPS. I don’t want “equivalent to”, I want BETTER

For growin’ weed.

I grow indoors using a 3’ x 6’ fabric raised garden bed. It holds 150 gallons of soil. Currently I flower out 4 at a time in her. Might opt for 6 next time.

So that would be $1,300 worth of light compared to $200 worth of light. That’s what I’m trying to figure out. Are they worth the price difference?
Inquiring minds want to know

only a few high end LED manufacturers have good ‘equivalent’ suggestions,
as far as better goes, u have one of the best already,
QB might out do your HPS over-all, but u would have to do your own comparison,
the HLG 600H V2 QB is close to ‘equivalent’ to a 1000w HPS,
if u factor in the cost of 5 yrs of bulbs and electricity the QB costs the same or less.!
the 600H has a better spread, still ‘hot’ in the center, but the edges r covered better,

idk of the penetration power, 18-24" canopy is all a 1000w HPS will do,
we r just now seeing the 600H on grow sites in 4x4 tents, time will tell.!!

i swapped from 400w HID to 135w QB to remedy heat issues,
removed a 400w HPS and put in 2x HLG 135w V2’s, one 3k and one 4k,
the drivers r turned down for a total of 240 watts of draw, 60% of the hps,
i would not swap back to 400w HID for any reason, the QB is BETTER light.!

this is one of my 1st QB grown plants…

and these frosty colas came from miniature plants from bag seed mammas.!

Trying to learn, why 18"-24" above canopy?

is this from my post about canopy depth.?

all lighting looses power the further away u get,
at 24"-30" above the tops, 18" is about as far down into the canopy a 1000w can penetrate, this is why we ‘lollipop’ our plants,
the closer u get the light the deeper the canopy can be, to a point.!

my 135w QB’s sit on glass separating them from the grow chamber,
plant tops stay about 9-12" from the diodes.

My bad. I thought you meant that was as close as you could have your light over the canopy.

I just bought new reflectors. 36x36
8"air-cooled, and 740cfm exhaust fan. My whole thinking on this was to get lights closer without losing coverage on the edges. Was I wrong?
