Betty's Source Turbo Experiments

Hey black thumb, will you just add alcohol to make the tincture?

Oh, no! I just evaporated off all that. :grinning: I’ll be mixing in 1-2 tbsp MCT and 2 drops of terps.

Found a thread I had forgotten about:

Excuse my ignorance, what’s MCT?

Medium Chain Triglycerides, typically derived from coconuts. It stays liquid, even when it gets cold. A lot of people use it as a dietary supplement, but it also makes a good cutter for cannabis oils. I wouldn’t smoke it if I could help it, but it’s even used in vape carts.

Thank you!

It’s a great countertop appliance.

I have a little sum’n-sum’n cooking up, too. I’ll share after it’s done.

What do you have there? Hmmmmm?

I made this, using 6 grams of undecarbed Green Crack buds (curing since March), 1 gram of calyxes plucked from last Spring’s harvest, and 1 cup of 190 proof ethanol. I put it in the ultrasonic cleaner for 9 minutes, filtered it, winterized it, then filtered again before processing it the Source for 180 minutes. Then, I let it dry on a silicone mat, at room temperature, for 12 hours.

Top: fresh from the Source
Bottom: after 12 hours of drying and just before scraping

Final weight: 1.25 grams of shattery-taffy goodness

Your thoughts on:

  1. making a tincture with everclear, utilizing heat and ultrasound extraction techniques .
  2. boiling off the alcohol, replacing with Coconut Oil as the volume decreases.
    and:
Mixing CBD oil and THC oil, with the aim of increasing
    the CBD/THC ratio

I don’t use heat when washing my material, but you can if you want. It will affect the flavor and color of the final product. Ultrasound does naturally heat up the solution, so if you go with ultrasound, keep an eye on your temps.

Not sure you want to add oil as you’re evaporating the ethanol. Just wait til your extract is done, then mix in your carrier fluid.

If you look for MCT, you’d get more expensive stuff because it’s very popular now. Search for ‘fractionated coconut oil’, you’d get better pricing. Normal coconut oil solidifies at 76 deg F. The fractionated oil has a lot lower condensing point so it stay liquid at room temperature

It stays liquid, even when refrigerated.

It never solidified because they remove the long chain triglycerides (LCT) out of and only the medium chain (MCT) is left.

Yep. They can chemically alter it so it emulsifies, but otherwise mct will always stay fluid at room or fridge temps.

Decarbing my last 4oz of Casino Cookies CBD trim. I still have ¼oz of popcorn nugs, but I’ve been smoking on them, so they’re probably not going to make it into an extraction. :grinning:

Once done decarbing, I’ll allow the jars to cool, then pop them into the freezer for a day or two before doing a wash.

–Used 3 cups of ice cold 190 ethanol to Ultrasonic wash the 2 smallest jars of decarbed trim.
–Washed in 2 batches for 5 minutes the first batch (half pint jar) and 7 minutes the second batch (pint jar).
–Will refreeze the ethanol and then wash the other jars of trim using the same fluid.

I bought a gallon of 151 Ever Clear to use, but before I extract with it, I am going distill it down to nearly pure ethanol using the Source. I have never had issues making extractions with regular Ever Clear, but all the cool Source kids insist on 190, so I guess that’s that.
