#1 best and worst job you've had?

Hey y’all, I know there are some good and some not so good jobs out there. So let’s here it and if you have stories please do tell. I’ve got some interesting ones haha.

Worst job, probably when I was still sophomore, I worked at a Mazzio’s pizza. That place was so crooked. Best job besides my time I the army deployed was working as a Prison guard at a maximum security facility.

Worst, 1972 - working at a gas station and had to do all the cleaning, stocking, pump the gas and shovel the snow. He was too cheap to hire someone to plow so I had to come in before school to shovel the snow. He was an a-hole but his wife always came in and gave me extra money and goodies. She was cool.

Best 14 years old and was helping to train quarter horses for my friend’s dad. In less than a year he would not even show up to supervise me. I got to go in the morning in the summer, feed, do the chores and exercise the horses. After that, I could take the riding horses out and ride around the farm (468 acres.) I used to invite a friend and a couple girls along and we would go to the pond to swim. It was really clean and stocked with fish. Best of all the cottage at the pond had a beer cooler that was always stocked. He didn’t say anything about me drinking as long as I refilled it.

Good days.

Thanks @Hawkeye_diesel I hadn’t thought about that in 30 years.

My best story at the prison: my first use if force was a good one:
I had been there about a month. Shifts were from 6 to 6 for the guards. Now it was an unspoken rule that you don’t have a use of force after 4, because the paperwork and everything would take a long @$$ time. We’ll there was a call on the radio, an officer in one of the max pods had deployed October, thus was at 1805, we were all just waitin for our replacements. So me an a buddy rushed off our pods to the pod where it had happened. OC had been deployed, well these two cellys were message with the guard an he sprayed them, so we get there an finally after the camera get on scene. We cuff em through the door and take them out, they aren’t happy, picture 2 little kids fighting about a toy. Hollering and bickering, whinging because they got sprayed. So we get them out an to a table so they can be check out by medical, well the one me an my buddy were standing by one and he got a little rowdy, well keeps trying to stand up and resisting well we told him to stop multiple time, didn’t listen. So he stands up me an my buddy grab him by the arms and push him back an to topples over the cairns and start whining about my arm my arm. So we are escorting him to medical an he tried to act stupid. We look back at each other and push his arms forward and sweep his legs, and bam his raves meets cold hard concrete and bust his chin all to hell an we both sprayed him at the same time. It was great. I didn’t get to leave till like 9 that night haha

Bunch more where that came from

Best job ive had is def being a mum, you only realise that when they are grown and can see what great people you have nurtured. because at the time (4boys 7and under) it feels like its never gonna end. Altho being a mum never does end but i dont have to look after them now

Best again: being a checkout chick at coles, i loved talkin to all the customers

Worst: cotton chipping, where you have to walk along the rows of cotton and chip out the weeds the rows are about half a k long and its ok when the cotton plants are small but when they get bigger and bushier and you hear a rustle you dont know if its a snake or a wild pig. And i was really sick at the time

I also sprayed to different cells right next to each other at the same time. Me and my buddies girl awarded her first use of force together, that was awesome. Also got to do a cell extraction on a guy on bath salts, that was great. Also a good story

While on my deployment I clotheslined a local for runnin where he wasn’t supposed to, that was great, I got the nickname the bridge and hawkeye.

best job, probably the Army, although i liked working at the livestock center at Central Texas College and groundskeeping, both of which i did after i retired.
Worst job, private unarmed security in section 8 housing in Tacoma Wa. I worked that in 96 as a part time job when i was at Ft. Lewis. It’s bad when the cops tell you they feel sorry for you,lol

Yeah that sounds like a horrible job

Best job, I’ve had 2 that rank as “bests”. First was the 7 years between high school and college that I worked with horses. Started out just shoveling poop for a place to live and three squares, by the time I had five years in I was a good trainer and was riding most of the day.

Second was working as an ecological research assistant after college. Did that for 7 years too.

Worst job was working at Dunkin Donuts when I was 16. At that time they had counter service and we had to wear uniforms that had shortish shirts and aprons. My boss was a perv and I ultimately quit because of his ~unwanted~ advances and sick manipulative personality.

Aside from my horse training in HS, I would say that I was lucky enough to have a job that I enjoyed all the time since I graduated from High School. There is NO 100% great job all the time but I got to save lives as a Paramedic before the service, saved lives in the military and later as a Physician Assistant. One of my mentors said that you didn’t pick the job, it picked you. That makes a lot of sense to me.

I started studying medicine when I was 12. My uncle was an EMT and I was reading his book one day. He came in and asked me if I understood what was in the book. I told him that I understood a lot of it. He asked me questions and then said “Boy, you are gonna be a Doctor when you grow up”. He gave me the book and I still have it. I taught first aid as a Boy Scout.

I had my chance at being a Doctor (was accepted to medical school) but went to P.A. because it was a better fit as far as jobs after school. I could still have time for my kids as a P.A. and most doctors become married to their office. I didn’t want that, so P.A. it was ! Have never been sorry ! I also got a chance to teach Anatomy and Physiology and Microbiology in College for 5 years. Loved that too !

Best job was the summer of my sophomore year. I was hired as a parking lot attendant for the local beach parking.
I would sit in a beach chair, under an umbrella and check if people had a beach parking sticker.
Half the people trying to park that didn’t have a sticker would bribe me to look the other way.
The best part was once the lot was full (around 11am) I could go home/to the beach and get paid til 5!

Worst job, worked for a collection agency, calling people on their delinquent loans. I’ve never been screamed at, lied to or hung on more in my life.

Love what you do don’t do what you love.
That’s my motto never a good or bad job.

Nice fun topic here @Hawkeye_diesel
Best-
Freelance field service for a hardware company swapping out defective swipe devices at supermarket checkouts and returning the defects via FedEx. Available calls were dispatched via daily email blast and could range from 1-2 to as many as 10 a day. It literally took longer to complete the paperwork than to perform the swap and test the device. All together each call took about 10-15 minutes.
The location could range from my county in CT to bordering states of MA, RI and NY.
It was paid per call. I had a 2003 VW Golf TDI with a Greasecar kit I installed in it and an unlimited supply of clean used vegetable oil. I would typically accept as many as were clustered together regionally. For instance if there was 1 call locally or 5 calls just over the line in RI or MA or the opposite corner of CT, I’d take those instead.
Anyway, it cost me almost nothing in fuel and paid decent. The company did a reorg and dropped their subcontractor program leaving me out of a job. It was great while it lasted. Some weeks I drove 750-1000 miles and only used 1/4 tank of diesel.

Worst-
Washing dishes at an Italian restaurant that served a lot of greasy heavy cream sauces and all the female patron smeared their cheap lipstick all over the glassware.
