I am new at growing but not at gardening so a few weeks ago I started 12 plants, 3 failed, start 3 new again so far the growing is doing well I was wondering about pruning (one plant is almost 2 feet tall) I would like some advised I didn’t ad any fertiliser or anything beside using foxfarm ocean forest and mix it 50/50 with my garden dirt.
Welcome to the community ! very nice I noticed you’re growing autos . they do have a short veg cycle and normally start flowering between 4 to 7 weeks. Fox Farm. Ocean Forest soil will usually carry you till they start to flower then you’ll have to add some Bloom nutes. But after mixing with Garden Soil you may need NPK before flowering time.
Generally autos I don’t do too much pruning during veg stage maybe a little tuck . You don’t want to do anything to stunt or slow down your growth. As far as NPK I would buy something cannabis friendly . Lot of good products on the market. I would like to tag @Nicky he grows a lot of auto and can advise on the pruning of the autos.
@the-tick I would recommend Jack’s 321 first and foremost for nutrients because it’s cheap, it works flawlessly, it’s customizable once you learn to use it and understand nutrients, it is well supported in the cannabis community and its shelf life is unlimited.
Same with chemgro but not as many people use it, I use chemgro.
General hydroponics dry nutrients is another good option but its just more pricey and less customizable. But NASA uses it, lol.
As far as purning /trimming I don’t suggest it in veg. Unless your FIM’ing, which you should be doing to your autos to get 4 colas vs 1 cola and even your canopy out.
A little LST if you have the time patient’s (I don’t usually because I’m busy)
In soil you really want to avoid cutting a pla t as much as possible, in coco or hydro you have more buffer room because nutrients is so easily available vs soil. Autos react bad to stress and don’t have the time advantage to just increase the grow time to make up for stress fall backs.
I recommend tucking as much as possible and defoilation in flower once you know where your bud sites are. Ussualy I defoilate once after the stretch and again when I’m in the last 3 weeks of flower. Because bud sites need light to grow
Okay @Nicky now that I know you’re available! we had spoke a few weeks back about fim’ing autos . I have two with 4 full set of leafs not counting the first single leaf at what point is the best time to fim.
Cut at the 4th node and cut most of the leaf part off but still leave a bit don’t cut to far so that there is nothing but stem left, if you do that then it won’t re grow and you won’t get a cola.
If you notice in the image below I cut a little to far on one side and thus that what was meant to be a fan leaf to feed the plant will be nothing, but I did the FIM it’s self mostly successful.
@the-tick I had been in the past topping my Autos one time. And I had spoke with Nicky and he was telling me that fimming was much easier on the Autos . I hope you watch the video . Clear-cut neat video.
