I do the same. Any water I consume is RO. I have a good diet and don’t need the minerals I miss by not drinking tap. I started this when I started drinking tea. Tap water in a boiling kettle left a white, powdery residue in the bottom of the kettle. Yuk!
Yeah, ours leaves a buildup on everything.
We have a water softener as well. But the RO with Jacks comes out right at a pH of 5.8 so I dont even check it anymore. Grow in coco. I love that stuff.
Just started 1 Northern Lights and 2 Blue Dream. NL is above ground. BD should be right behind.
The amount of chlorine/chloramine in municipal water will generally have minimal impact on most plants themselves, but it will have some impact beyond the plant… The level of impact will vary, but there will always be some impact on the beneficial bacteria in the soil and on the plant roots… The beneficial bacteria that lives on the roots of plants breaks down nutrients and makes helps the plant to absorb those nutrients, so there is that impact even if not obvious or visible… Then there is also the immediate impact on the beneficial bacteria living in the soil doing its thing but not necessarily living on the plant roots… Chlorine/chloramine will basically instantly kill much of the beneficial bacteria in the soil, thus if you are going for healthy living soil, even one watering with chlorine/chloramine will essentially end that living soil and uncycle the soil send you back to square one with a ‘dead’ soil…
Now, the amount of impact can be mitigated to some degree by supplementing with easier to absorb ferts and nutrients that don’t need the beneficial bacteria for breakdown help, but IMO that is a bandaid fix for a problem that can be avoided by simply using better water…
I think they use chloromine now mostly which breaks down VERY slowly over time into chlorine, but never leaves solution if i remember correctly. A charcoal filter is needed of long uv exposure to either break it down or remove it from the water. Chlorine dioxide is also often used where biological films need to be treated for.
So am I better off with distilled and purified water I prefer the gallons from the store easy to mix nutes and feed the girls don’t mater the extra hassle
Unless you live in Flint Michigan or have some rediculous high ppm tap water or raunchy well water. Just use tap water. If your dinking water kills your plants then you may want to consider moving and seeing a doctor.
So does that work because thats what i was planning on doing to get rid of the chlorine
Most likely just lime or calcium residue.
If you fill your jug and put it in your closet for 24 hours, the chlorine will evaporate. @BigGrizz Welcome to the community.
Ok and thanks what about the Chloramine
It should. Chloramine is added ammonia to chlorine.
I think chloramine has to be took out with a chemical.
I think that’s what I read on one of these topics. Me personally it works great for me and ain’t had a problem since I’ve been doing it that way
Chloramine is a mixture of chlorine and ammonia. Both should evaporate. IMHO
I have been doing it that way for years and have never had a problem. I know someone that works at the water treatment plant and he told me that it would evaporate if left in an open container
LoL it was this thread:person_facepalming:
Sorry for for the screenshot but I don’t know how to work this thing yet
Thank you Growmie… that’s straight from the horse’s mouth
