What should I buy for first harvest?

I think I have 6 - 7 weeks until I harvest. I want to start early on purchasing clippers, hangers, jars, bubble bags, etc. Can you all suggest quality items for me. Thanks

I like the cheap shears that are curved because I buy 4 or more a year… I like these sweater dryers better because they are huge and stackable to the ceiling… sock hangers are great for smaller colas… the mini hydrometer is priceless to keep in at least one jar of each plant to monitor RH… jars are self explanatory… ibuprofen is for my arthritis… I’m sure that I missed some stuff but this will get you started

Haha I hear you need ibuprofen for the trimming. What’s the difference between putting the bud to dry on those and hanging them? Does it make a difference to the bud?

When I was growing outside I would have that much smaller stuff that I just couldn’t hang it all. I only have one of them setup now because I’m harvesting 1.5 lbs, back then I would do 10-20 lbs depending on how many the deer and people would find out there. My health doesn’t allow me to hike the mountains like that anymore and I have to grow inside. Or if you machine wet trim you have to lay it out. As long as you have airflow around the room they dry good on them, they have stacked ones now that hang l haven’t tried them though

I’m in a 3x3 under a hlg 300 rspec so I could just hang it. I just see most people on here doing that. Would I just buy hangers and clips? I bought the hydrofarm cvaults @Hellraiser suggested. I bought 4 that hold 3-4 oz each.

I’m not sure what those are. I have never been around all these gadgets that everyone uses I learned to grow in the 80s and until I got sick about five years ago I was still climbing mountains and hiding plants. I used those sock guys and clothes pins on string in the shop

Along with the clippers. I would put this way at the top of the list. It cleans scissors in seconds. Saving a lot of time an grief. Especially if you do big plants :slightly_smiling_face: I would look at 64 oz jars as well. Way easier to use and less burping. The prices have gotten stupid high :astonished:. Check walmart as ours here sells them cheaper. Also get the wide mouth if possible. You will see why when you try stuffing buds in the little hole the regular jars have

I’ve seen that on this forum. I will get that as well as the clippers @MeEasy suggested.

Yeah I used that scissor scrubber last harvest, was nice to have around. I always kept one trimmer in it while using another, that way you just swap your trimmer for the clean one and leave the sticky one to soak.

Get extra trimmers/clippers and alcohol.

Also some nitrile or vinyl disposable gloves to keep the sticky stuff off your hands. Nice to just pull the gloves off when taking a break than having to wash your hands with alcohol repeatedly thru the trimming day.

A trim bin is nice to have, like a little portable trim station, and catches kief if you dry trim. Hell, even if you wet trim, it’s nice and will catch the kief when time to cut the buds off the stems once dry. I used to get trim all around my work area before getting one of these, now it’s all neatly contained in the trim bin

Hey @Not2SureYet the jars are 2 liters, which equals to 67 OZ each. I guess the advertisement was for how much bud you should put in there. You got me scared. I thought I spent $160 for the four of these for nothing. lol

Great sized jars then. Make sure you only fill them about 2/3 full till you are past the 2 week cure. That way. You can roll the jar around a little and let the buds move some. Keep them free and less chance of mold as to if they were packed in there. That will hold a lot of humidity. I use 1/2 gallon and 1 gallon jars my self. I could use some of those 2.5 gallon ones though  The ones in the link are quart jars.

If you are only growing the one plant. A net like this will give you a nice place to hang your plants in the tent to dry. I use these and 3/4" binder clips to hold the plants. The net is adjustable for smaller tents too

I have 4 plants in a 3x3. I was wondering about how to hang them. Should I hang them as a whole plant. I heard the way you dry them affects potency. I wanted to keep them in my tent to dry.

Here’s a link to my journal i’m at 5-6 weeks since switching to 12/12 This will hopefully be my first successful grow - #313 by Hello777hi

As you can see. I wet trim mine than hang them. Hanging a whole plant will spow the process a lot. I am not sure if it would add to the possibility of getting bud rot. @Myfriendis410 or @dbrn32 can answer this better than I could.
