White Widow Auto. In 2-3 gallon pot. Fox Farm Ocean Floor potting soil. Nutrients 1x per week. Watering as needed. In 3.5x 4’ clost with two HlG 260 watt Rspec lights in there. About 5-7 weeks old.
Thanks

Which nutrients are you using? Do you know your runoff pH and PPM numbers?
I’ve been using Jacks 3-2-1 which was recommended to me.
The PPM going in has been 800-900. PH of the nutrients has been at @ 5.8, which is a little low i know.
Don’t fully understand how to measure PH of the soil since I don’t get much run off when i water.
I expect you have pH and PPM problems. Can’t offer much help without understanding what is going on in your soil. Runoff pH should be ~6.5 and runoff PPM should be ~1,000.
How do you measure soil ph? Only by testing run off?
Which I guess means you need to water enough to get runoff?
Correct on both counts. You can do a slurry test, but it’s much easier to test the runoff.
Is it really a problem though? This plant is starting to flower and I’ve also read that lower leaves sometimes turn yellow as the plant flowers and diverts energy/nutrients to the flowers and not the leaves.
So i wonder id it’s anything but an aesthetic issue? ( who wants sickly yellow leaves?)
They do. It’s common for a plant to lose its lower leaves as it matures. What is going on here is a little more than is usually expected.
How are tou mixing your Jacks?
Mixing in a gallon of water per the instructions. Delivering via a water can 1x per week in substitute for normal watering.
If your using jacks feed nutrients every watering. It is beneficial to check your run off initially to be sure enough of the nutes are used up in the soil. Kind of looks like a nitrogen issue.
If you are not watering to about 20% run off you are going to run into bigger issues than you have now.
The reason we do so is to wash the salts out of the medium. When it builds up, the ph of the medium will change and the nutrients will not be absorbed properly (lockout).
I would flush your pots with properly ph-ed water until the ph of the run off is where it should be, 6.3-6.8 in soil and low ppm. Follow this with a feeding
No argument there, Sensi
Thanks.
