What is Rspec in an LED light?

I have a HLG QB 320 XL light, V2 3000K general use. I see on Growers Light website there is a new light similar to mine but has Rspec. What are the differences in what I have and this new version?

“HLG 550 V2 R spec offers more light output with a red enhanced spectrum.”

Ok from what I understand, rspec is more efficient

Beat me to it.

The rspec boards have 2 rows of 660nm red diodes to give that flower boost to the light. The v2 just runs the lm301b diodes

3000k is a great red favoring spectrum so they are still really great lights. And cheaper now that the rspec boards are out.

Wonder what difference (if any) would we see in plant growth if we grew 2 strains in similar conditions with one Rspec and one HLG 3000k light like the one I have?

I have 3000k QB 120’s. I grew 2 white widow autos and pulled almost 10oz. I recently added some 660nm strips to see the difference.

Interesting. I have 2 lights and two tents, so I’m interested in your adding 660nm strips.

Both of mine are HLG LED QB’s. One is a 135W V2 3000k with a single panel, the other is the 320W V2 3000k XL with 3 panels.

Will I have the capability of updating my lights to add the Rspec strips?

You can just buy boards and replace the ones u have. Or u can buy qb strips and add them into ur space.

Cutter electronics makes awesome supplemental strips. The QB11’s that HLG has seem ok too.

Here is the before and after. My QBs are also 3000k

I would add to what you have before replacing it. It was like 150 dollars to add the 4 strips and driver.

Very helpful, indeed. Didn’t realize I’d need to add a second power driver - is this due to the original driver doesn’t have the power to drive the additional strips?

What is your opinion of the difference that adding the Rsec strips makes in the yield of a plant? If there is a yield difference in plants grown with and w/o the Rspec strips, it would soon break even from the additional expense.

The strips aren’t “rspec” strips. The rspec is the new 288 board HLG just came out with. And yes, they will need a separate driver. The difference your going to see with the 660 far red strips is just better flowering overall. It will help with bud structure, density, and that lower canopy bud will not be so larfy. Really just the far red lights help with bud development.

The light that order did come in and in one week you can see the difference it has made I put in between two 450 watt led full spectrum and I think the new light is out doing those and it’s just a 135 watt rspec light it is awesome I wish I had the money I’d get the 320 Witch I can add on and change the driver
