Week 7 yellow leaves and lack of growth

Hey guys & girls,
I’m at week 7 of my first grow and I’ve got leaves yellowing at the bottom and spreading upwards on my ak47 auto. It also looks like it has a lack of leaves and growth compared to other pics I’ve seen of plants at the same period. I’d be interested in what some experienced growers think could be the cause for the yellowing leaves and lack of growth and what I could do from here.

I’m growing outdoors in a pot and its the beginning of winter where I live so the plant is roughly getting about 10-11 hrs of sunlight a day at best. I’m thinking this could be the reason behind the lack of growth?

Yellowing leaves from what I’ve read on this forum is due to a lack of nitrogen, does this look like it could be that problem? I’ve given it a couple of fertilizer treatments the last 2 times I’ve watered it. I used my housemates fertilizer they use for tomatoes but is there any specific npk ratio fertilizer I should be using at this stage?

Thanks!!

I will leave the temperature and nutrients to other guys, but I will ask, is the black pot sitting on the bottom of the gray pot? If do, I would probably remove the black pot from inside the gray one… I feel like your plant may not be draining properly because of this. Just make sure you remove the runoff water from the gray pot, as you don’t want standing water (especially outside) since that is a breeding ground for pests.

I will say you most definitely look like you’re also having nutrient issues, but I’m no expert so I won’t go there lol. I can only recommend you get a cannabis friendly fertilizer. I use Jack’s Nutrients.

I agree. @Dankloud . I would get it out of the double pot thing. As for nutes, I use Fox Farms trio. But you need to know what your plants want. Are you PH’ing your water? Important! Ph needs to be at 6.5 for nute uptake. Do you water to runoff? Need to and collect to check the PPM. Also need a TDS/PPM tester.

Oh yeah, WELCOME TO THE FORUM!

Thanks for the reply!
When I water it, I take the black pot out of the gray one to let it drain. It’s in that grey pot because I take it inside so the morning sun hits it, just don’t want to have to clean up dirt in the house haha

Thanks for the nutrient suggestion :slight_smile:

Those leaves will fall off, looks like you are in flowering now.

Being auto. I would try to ride it out, @PurpNGold74 around?

I think I have some researching to do haha. I haven’t done any ph testing. Thanks for the reply and the welcome :slight_smile:

I did think the leaves were yellowing because it was flowering but at the same time it hasn’t grown too much so wasn’t sure what to think
My thoughts were to ride it out, I wanted to have a go at growing and didn’t want to wait for the right season, so I guess this is part of the problem it not being the right season

Understood! That’s fine then, shouldn’t be a problem.

I’m going to dump some information here, not to scare/confuse, but to educate. Feel free to ask any questions!

As @TEGRITY said, pH is CRUCIAL as well. Are you checking pH when you feed? Also getting an EC meter would be extremely helpful as well. Here is a rundown:

TDS = Total Dissolved Solids
PPM = Parts Per Million
EC = Electrical Conductivity
TDS and EC both give you an idea of the quantity of nutrients in a feeding solution. TDS is determined by multiplying EC by a predetermined standard value (500 for instance seems to be most popular in US). TDS is measured in PPM. So an EC of 2 is a TDS of 1000 PPM. To test this you really just need an EC meter, since you can find the TDS from EC, since that is what TDS is derived from.

pH is how alkaline or acidic a solution is. Cannabis, when planted in soil likes a slightly acidic soil, shoot for 6.5pH, as this encourages the most nutrient uptake.

If you look at the chart below, it shows you how much of each nutrient is absorbed at different pH levels so you can see how important it is to pH your solution. PH is also logarithmic, meaning a 1.00 pH difference is actually a 10x difference in alkalinity.

As far as what meter to get, I would get the combo Apera PC60 on Amazon, though it is $130 USD… It is really nice, does EC, and PH (among other things) has a multicolor backlight, reolacable probes (can get a soil probe soo, which is what I’m thinking of doing) and is accurate down to the hundredth (0.01)… If you don’t want to spend that much, I recommend the Apera EC20 and PH20. Both are around 40 - 50 I believe, but you cannot change the probe later down the road.

I have a PH20 (just dios ph), had an EC20(just does EC), then returned the EC20 and just bought the PC60. I will never buy separate meters again. Having 1 to do it all is amazing. Plus still have the PH20 to cross check if needed…

GET a ph pen! Apera 20 is a popular brand used. Runs about $50 on Amazon. Don’t cheap on it as it will cost ya in the long run. Get ph at 6.5. Then, water till you get enough runoff to be able to test ppm. This will tell you when you need to feed.
Another piece of advice, download ILGM grow bible. It’s a quick read, and is good info. Also, read all the threads you can. So much useful info!
And lastly, don’t be afraid to ask questions!! :wink:

They shouldn’t be falling off till closer to the plants senescence. This is most likely a nutrient/ph issue I believe.

They do need a bigger home, yes but just my opinion I’d up on nutes make sure shes fed, not over doing, she can only grow as big as her home will allow (roots) being a auto tho in flower I wouldn’t transplant into bigger due to stress, this is just me tho. Others may can direct you in a better way. Welcome to the community @Mish

Definitely in flower, so ride it out. You need to get on a feeding schedule with reputable cannabis nutrients. I use Jack’s line and love it. Cheaper than most per gallon and once you get the measuring down…super easy. I’d stay away from commercial fruit and vegetable fertilizer as it’s usually too hot for cannabis. Are you PH-ing the water? I know its an outdoor plant, but sometimes watering is needed and needs to be PH-ed. Most likely the reason for lack of growth is nutrients and water PH is off.

I can second Jacks Nutrients recommendation. That’s what I use. It goes a long way. You would need to get Part A and Part B either at a local shop or at Jacks website.

Btw just so everyone knows, I’m out of likes for the day, so I do like your posts, I just can’t like them lol. @TEGRITY @rookiegrower

@Mish no problem. Lots of people here to help! I would highly recommend looking at some grow journals on here. An absolute wealth of information everywhere on this site. I personally recommend looking at @Hellraiser’s journals, as he is thorough with his explanations.
