Hey guys, decided to experiment with LST. I have it spread out the way it is so the small branches at the bottom can start grabbing more light. Let me know if there is something I am doing that’s incorrect, considering I am still learning. Also working with a small 2x2x4 space. Also leaves are growing quickly and well. Just started using nutes.
Looks good. Will have a nice shape.
Looks great!
Looks great keep it up
I’m being cautious on the nutes as it seems that the current nutes in the soil i last tested was around 700PPM. I read that cannabis that’s in veg like the range to be around 500PPM and then 1000PPM for flowering. I at least got my Ph right perfect at 6.5
This is a great baseline however your plants size will make a difference also. Bigger plants eat more.
I made a nutrient solution with distilled water at around 230PPM for the next time I water. So should bring the soil up close to 1000PPM. Could it be necessary to have to go above 1000PPM or is it mainly based on how big you let your plant get? I also know LST and defoliating uses more plant energy so therefore also requires more nutes.
This is the bare min tds for liquid to hold its own ph. If your water and/or nute solution doesnt have enough tds to hold its ph it could tank the ph of your soil.
No, not 100% of what you pour in stays in #1.
#2 there is a difference between your ppm in 1 gal of liquid vs the ppm of 5 gal of soil. Does that make sense?
Start small like 1/4 - 1/2 feed.
About distilled and RO water- neither has any calcium or magnesium. These are important minerals and can mark up your leaves if not given. You need calmag in it and you will likely need to add calmag at every watering and feeding. Depending on the calmag you use there will be two doses. For Botanicare its 3-5 ml/ gal, each or every other watering.
Soil is an odd animal. There are lots of nutrients already in it, what you add is to replenish what the plant depletes. Base your feedings off whether she shows you hunger even after feeding (meaning she is eating more than you are replenishing). Try to not get married to numbers, except when you’re measuring what goes into the soil. I.e. if you’re giving her 500ppms of nutrient but she still looks hungry after a couple days, it may be time for more. If you are giving her 1000 PPMs just because it’s a target number with no demonstration of hunger/visible signs of deficiency, you may accidentally induce a nutrient lockout by overloading her with too much.
This is the best advice to follow. Add some, not everything all at once - for the reasons above.
You’re in good hands with the Doc
Solid advice as can be given.
What signs do I look for when she’s hungry? I know what she looks like when she’s over/ under watered now learning it the hard way lol. But not sure what the signs of a hungry cannabis plant are. Any physical differences?
Usually the leaves will discolor. How they discolor depends on the deficiency she’s showing you.
Here are some examples of deficiency from my own grows.
Some of those are a smidge misleading because it’s a mutant plant - only half of her shows deficiency while the other half is totally fine, as exhibited on those two leaves.
Here’s a pretty classic chart showing what it may look like for any given nutrient.
I didn’t even think about magnesium, iron, and calcium. I thought the Bergman fertilizer would have had all that packed into it. I just bought some botanical cal-mag in case when I may need it. Definitely saving the picture with the list of deficiencies!
I think I am going to have to flip to flowering soon. She sprouted out of the soil on June 30th so I’m in 4 weeks and 4 days since it sprout. I measured from the base of the plant to as high as the light will go and I have 24-25 inches of space (base of plant to light). Otherwise I’m worried I may run out of room. Been on a photoperiod time of 18/6 light cycle. I definitely don’t wanna out grow my tent because other wise I’d be screwed!. @Docnraq
This is prolly wise, as I understand it with photos you wanna flip when the plant is half as tall as you want it. You will need between 18-24 inches of distance between the light and the canopy plus whatever the hanging distance of the ratchet straps and what not holding up your light. So yeah prolly wanna flip soon, remeber you can do training methods to help spread your plant wide vs upward.
I’m currently LST them at the moment. But may need to adjust the plant ties more downward to help save room. They’re responding well to the LST so far also. So may need to adjust the branches slightly more. But will definitely be flipping soon when ever I finish the LST up. How long do you wanna wait before flowering after you relieve the LST?
You dont. You will likely need to tie and retie repeatedly throughout the stretch and early flowering.
Ok, I wasnt sure how long you were supposed to LST. I didn’t know you can continue it into early flowering stage.
Yup, the branches get firmer after the stretch but you can still work with it. Not so much bending at that point but still spreading everything out. Sometimes I use bamboo and ties to force stems apart from eachother.
