Tylersays - First Grow w/ First Grow 2.0 Featuring the A-U-T-O-matic Experience

I think these are good odds, I’m in for 20 that you buy some as well lmao

y’all beat me to that bet

@Covertgrower better suited for that one. No personal experience but like @TheVirginian said and I assume the same, mature mothers produce a stable seed versus an immature mother.

The seeds have to stay on the plant to ripen the entire length of flowering. If they don’t stay alive in the plant to mature, the seeds will not be viable.

I thought it was one of you two i had seen say that (numerous times now actually)

I’m done for now for seeds. Ended up buying more last week from bliss on ig. Now I have pretty much all his strands and the Gorilla glue is his. I’m the 1st growing it he said.

He got a nyc diesel f4s so will be interesting to grow that

@Syndrix dirty but also true. I’m 100% going to look. I just suffered the loss of my OGesus being male and subsequently realizing I really have lost the other 4 seeds I had for it.

Thanks for all the info @TheVirginian @OGIncognito and @Covertgrower !
I don’t have super high hopes for any bagseed I might find now and days but you never know! So I figure nothing ventured. nothing gained!!
One would think bagseed is the result of herms in commercial weed and not the product of cross pollination from a male. Which one would also think the resulting plant would likely be a female that would herm also. Versus a feminized seed with a 99% chance of being pure female.
True cross pollination would give you a 50-50 shot at best.
Which would be fine if they were like box turtles where warmer incubated eggs give you all females and cooler incubation temps give you males. High Times magazine used to swear that the sex of a plant is determined by germination conditions. Much like stress is know to cause herms in otherwise healthy females. All my High Times info is pre 95. I gave up my first growing attempts around that time and turned to making money…it was that time and I just didn’t have time for both. But I did retire at 51!
I also take into consideration that if it is a result of a herm in a fem seed then the likelihood that it carries dominant genes from one of the parent plants is increased. Then you’d be growing a entirely different strain and not the child plant. If the hybrid is established and stable the chances would decrease.
AND - it’s still great fun playing the “what if” game!!

The good thing about the sale is - I can’t really think of a strain I don’t have or have on order atm so…
But i don’t PLAN on tempting the devil by going there either…

@SilvaBack203 I see these crazy strains all over the place I want to grow, but I figured I’d be better off starting with stable, established commercial genetics. Once I get a grip on not killing these seeds I’ll branch out into some smaller breeders.
Not trying to knock any of the independents out there at all. Do your thing!! Where do you think the big banks steal their ideas from?

@Graysin the 5 pack is tempting because it’s cheaper and do you really need 20 seeds of the same strain for most home grows? It almost kinda locks you into one strain for a while when your limited on how many plants you can have.
I’ve got 10 going now and it’s a LOT to stay on top of!!
The big packs paid off this year as I distributed some seedlings to fam and friends and fully expect a sample bud or two in return!! :joy:

I have got to get off this couch and do something!!

Happy Growing Everyone!!

And BTW - that’s just me rambling about MY thoughts on seed genetics. But it all sounds reasonable!

Agreed on everything. See I was infantry we always go 1st and hard lol. Go hard or go home. I feel confident enough that the knowledge gained thru this forum I can really tackle it. Knowledge is power and I like doing things the hard way

Right, exactly. I love mixed packs and pick-your-own packs. I also enjoy the freebies of diff strains (I.e. I buy 5 and they give me 2 free whatever they have extra). I ended up with the auto Gelato that is still the only one of my 3 autos left standing from the freebies.

Tell me about it. I started 4 diff strains and am glad I did because it looks like I’m going to end up with 2 successful Lemon Trees (assuming the one I just moved to the flower tent is female) and one very runty Gelato. I have eight diff strains popped and vegging now, plus the clone I picked up in Arizona (Frosted Jungle - I’m gonna keep saying it because my dumb self forgot what it was within 2 hours of picking it up and if it’s written down in 20 places, SOMEONE will know. Lol). I’m expecting of the 9-10 strains in the hopper, I may only end up with 6-8 successfully entering the flower phase without male bits emerging. I hadn’t started into my first grow expecting to have to cut my losses, but the plethora of plants makes it easier to say goodbye. If my white lavender is male I may just cry.

Believe or not my strongest plant right now was freebie from sman.

pfff, ALL of my outdoor ladies are bag seed. out of 21 blue dream, only 2 were male. That is a VERY good ratio in my opinion. I JUST took 2 clones off of Sylvia Lance Harper (super lemon haze, only one of 4 that survived of bag seed), 2 clones off Teensy (unknown bagseed but what wasn’t any bigger than my fingertip when the others were 6" tall is now 2nd or 3rd largest plant  ), 3 clones from Nancy Kerrigan , and then the one flowering (HARD) clone i accidentally broke off while mowing 10 days ago. Those blue dream out back, man you wanna talk about SUPER SKUNK smell…LAWD they are throwing the terps off hard in my yard man  LOVE walking around there, it brings a smile every time that waifs to my nostrils

OMGoodness! Has it been a day already? LOL!!
I actually got some stuff done yesterday and came to the site with the intention of doing a post, go to reading another post, which led to Hellraisers GG and other things thread and read that till about 4am!!
I didn’t even make it out of May but I’ll be going back for more - that thread is GOLD!! I wish I had been there at the beginning instead of being 5k post down! LOL! Maybe I should jump into the newer one also!

Well, the inside ladies each got watered yesterday with nutes.

Each gallon - 1 per plant - contained the following : 15ml Big Bloom; 15ml Grow Big; 1/4tsp Open Sesame; 5ml CalMag; 4ml Silica Plus

In -
Lauryn H.(#2) - 6.65Ph ; 2780 PPM
Gwen S. (#3) - 6.45Ph ; 2520 PPM

Out -
Lauryn H. (#2) - 6.74Ph ; 1700 PPM
Gwen S. (#3) - 6.55Ph ; 3440PPM (Hmmm)

Lauryns PPM is coming up slowly and Gwens PPMs have skyrocketed.
Next round will be plain water so we’ll see where we’re at then. They look good atm so I’m not gonna stress out over it yet. LOL!
Speaking of, I’ve got Kelp Me, Kelp You and Wholly Mackerel otw now and plan on sticking to the FF schedule from here on out with Silica Plus. Not sure about using CalMag too much during bloom, I’ve read that you shouldn’t. I’ll also be using the bloom trio, Open Sesame, Beastie Bloomz and Cha-Ching.
Kill 'em with kindness! :joy:

Last night of 18/6. It’s time to see what they’re gonna do and they definitely don’t need to get any bigger pre-stretch.

Oh hey - just finished working on this too. It might come in handy very soon. LOL!

I learned a lot while working on this thing and the next one will be better. I’ll probably cut this one down and reform it for the 2.3x2.3 and build a better one for the main tent next grow.
Initially I thought I was gonna have to ditch the mason line and go to something else as I couldn’t quite get the tension I wanted, but I figured out how to get the tension, hence the center brace. I was pulling the sides in, like negative pressure, cranking up the tightness!
I could have measured out even intervals for the grid but I held with Northern Scroggers 3" grid and then just kinda split the last, not even, grid at the end. You can see the irregularity on the left long side in the pic. The error on the short side is on the other end, but still kinda visible.
Next one will definitely have a center support structure, so 3 “boxes” instead of just the ends. And I’ll probably evenly divide the grid holding as close to 3" as I can. Looking at it I think I could get away with a little smaller holes, especially for my next experiment with the single plant. (Still can’t decide - maybe I’ll do a poll when it’s time! )
I didn’t fix the top to the bottom. It’s got a gorilla grip and if the plants push it off, well then, Houston, we got a problem. :joy:
I’m more worried about the grid giving out and going limp. My method of holding tension really needed a larger screw head, but I made it work, hopefully, with what was already in place.
For a project that seemed like just common sense, I learned a few things.

Got some snaps of the outside ladies yesterday and did a little clean up to a couple of the ladies. Gotta get back out there and get more done in the next couple. Cleaning house all day Sunday seems to have set me up for a busy week somehow. Of course, reading until 4am this morning didn’t help either!

The BIG GDP!

The little GDP!

The BIG NYD!

The little NYD!

The naked BIG GDP!

The naked BIG NYD!

Surely Hell has frozen over directly under The Old Dominion if I’m doing this!!

Exile on Skunk Street!

She desperately needs a trimming! LOL!

Poor Mary J.

She’s looking rough. I have no hopes for her at all really. Maybe I should cut her into clones and do a Sea of Green in the small tent? She’s a basically mature plant. Once rooted I could go straight to flower.
Maybe give them a week to get a grip, then flower!
I downloaded a 4 DVD set of videos on the Sea of Green method today. Maybe that one I had is part of this series. I still have it, but I also have about 100 spools of DVD’s I’ve burned too! LOL!
If you do torrents it’s on Pirate Bay if you search Sea of Green.

Oh yeah - things move so fast around here but no more bugs!!
Ding Dong the Mites are Dead!
I have a few gnats but nothing horrible. I might have caught 20 in the last week. Maybe I should get some mosquito bits or nematodes before the next watering?

Can anybody see any trichs on this yet?
I’m just not sure about this lady!

Happy Growing Everyone!!

I’ll get some pics of The Experiment tomorrow. Their coming along though the smaller plant seems to be getting fuller and thicker.

I know I need to get into the outside girls and cut off all the larf down low and probably some smaller shoots in the interior that are just sucking out juices. But it took about an hour to trim out all those fans on those 2!! And the sun is really dropping quick these days. Hopefully I can get the other 3 tomorrow…

@TheVirginian - I see a bagseed grow or two in my future! This bag of Versace Kush - which I actually got at a reduced rate, and I see why, has given me about 20 good beans so far.
Plus I pulled 2 more from the Pineapple Upside Down Cake. They’re both good smokes and you can really tell the sativa dominance in the VK but I prefer the PUDC.
I always have hope! That’s what rebellions are built on. LOL!

A “little” bud porn!

Happy Growing Everyone!!

That’s a pineapple! Believe it or not!!

Two years ago I took the top from a Fresh Pineapple I bought at the grocery store and planted it. Last year it produced a baby, which I took and planted the top off of that too. Then she put out 2 babies. I guess they grow by root propagation naturally. This spring one baby put out a fruit that split and I just let the bees have it. It’s still on the plant atm although it’s top is big enough to be planted now. You can kinda see it in the above pic.
I haven’t done any reading on growing pineapple and I figured it was like a bromeliad and I’d have to get it “drunk” to get it to bloom. Apparently not because she just keeps producing. My question now, and I might have to break down and Google it, is does each plant only produce 1 fruit? Ever since fruiting and producing the babies she’s just kinda there and hasn’t done much.
That clay pot is about 20" tall and is HUGE!! I have to let it get super dry before moving it!

HGE!!

That’s really cool! I’ve always wanted to try that. Maybe it won’t grow to it’s full potential due to the zone your in. I think they’re in zone 10-11. But I’ve heard people turning them into house plants. A while back I ordered some veggie seeds and I accidentally received dwarf papaya seeds. I wanted to plant one but after research found out that they can only grow in zones 7-12. Any tropical plant has to be in the 70’s or higher year round because they’re extremely sensitive to frost. I was totally bummed.

Luckily we have this!

We have 2 mini-splits in there to control temps and both a humidifier and de-humidifier just in case!
It’s pretty empty in there now - that pic was back in the winter, in fact. In the next few weeks me and my buddy will be moving everything back in there. Gotta get the windows clean in there before I stuff it full.
We have a window cleaning service come once a year and do the outside too.

We get all kinds of plants to flower in there!
This is one of my “Queen of the Night” flowers.

Technically a Night Blooming Cereus . It’s a succulent and it’s main pollinator is the Luna Moth so it blooms at night. And each bloom only lasts one night, by the next morning it’s done for! The spread on that flower is as big as a dinner plate is round!! It’s an impressive show as you can literally watch it open in front of your eyes! You can see it move!!
I have a time lapse on the HDD of one from a year or two ago. It’s pretty cool if I knew how to get it up here I would.

We keep it in the mid 70s through the winter.

I also cook!!

Bacon and cheddar quiche anyone?

Vegetables DON’T belong anywhere near eggs and cream!!

Happy Growing and EATING everyone!! :joy:
