Twelve1’s Journal: Autoflowers in Soil with Grow Dots

Some ground up Rosie the CBD is decarbing in the oven at the moment. Before the oven:

For smaller amounts that I usually grind, I prefer doing it by hand.

Afterwards, when I put a small amount of water on my finger to help lick off the finger hash:

Purple goodnesses!

While I’m on the topic of kief, I’d like @Fiz to post a pic of her yummy-looking puck porn. :yum:

I swear I thought you cut yourself!

Your wish is my command!

Yeah, I almost posted a disclaimer! :joy: The water lightened her purple to more of a ruby color. Surprised me at first.

That puck looks like it belongs in one of those cooking magazines, but for weed.

I was looking at the different layers. I was collecting for about a month for that - which I consider to be a nice bonus. Handgrinding is worth it for just this reason.

I noticed that. OK, makes sense that you were collecting it over a period of time. For sure, handgrinding has its benefits, especially for larger amounts. I think I’ll likely be decarbing a fair amount (for me) of the CBD, so I’ll consider putting my grinder to use. :slightly_smiling_face:

If you get a trim bin, you’ll get a lot more kief… It’s truly surprising how much you can get… :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

So I just dropped a Sour Diesel auto seed, another strain on my wish list, for a 24-hour soak. The plan so far is try another Durban Poison seed closer to when the GDP is almost ready for harvest. The Sour Diesel is from Expert Seeds.

Oh my trim bin kief was in there also.

@Graysin Based on your answer in your thread, if you don’t mind me copying it here, it seems that your soak method is more or less in line with Garden of Green and Expert Seeds?

GoG and Expert’s germination recommendation:

Today at 3pm marked 24 hours for my seed, but no tail. Around 5pm, I dunked it and it sank (again), so it seems that I should let the seed soak overnight and re-check in the morning.

Usually, I soak for 24 hours. My current seed is from Expert.

Once it sinks I usually pull it out. If it sinks, it means there’s a crack in the shell and usually an indicator that the tail is forming.

I will float it on the surface, if it sinks I’ll usually pat it dry and re-float it (to make sure user error isn’t why it sank) and if it sinks still, it’s time to put it in the coco. If it floats I leave it floating until the tail grows 1/4” or 1/2” long or until 72ish hours have passed.

The long and short of it is yes, exactly the same as GOG except I always float, never just submerge the seed. Superstitious I think but I’m afraid to drown them.

Thanks!

So when I tap it down to dunk it, that’s a potentially bad thing, right?

I just checked, and the seed is again floating. No tail. So, it seems that I should let it be for now, correct?

Yep, sounds exactly right. Let her keep floating!

No idea, just superstition on my part

It’s floating and has a small tail! I took a pic over an hour ago, but busy morning, lol. @Graysin Do you think it matters what position the seed is planted in? I don’t recall if you posted in a recent thread where someone mentioned the subject. Seems that there are differing opinions on that.

Not really. It will correct itself on the way up. I tried planting tail down and found more seedlings struggling to remove their shell and membrane. I tried planting tail up and found they kinda go lopsided sometimes. This time around I planted tail down but buried them about an inch below the surface, which is way deeper than I usually go. They haven’t come up for air yet but I bet when they do, they’ll be shell-less, membrane-less, and upright.

We’ll see if the theory holds true. I’m just guessing for now

That’s what I usually do and I rarely have a problem with a stuck shell… unless it’s in coco since the medium is a lot less compacted than Pro-Mix…

Thanks so much for your help! @Graysin The deed is done! I put little Petie seedie in her grow bag. Turns out that the tail was planted sideways. I’m nervous af dealing with seeds with tails, so where she landed, she stayed. Do you and others use tweezers or something? :grimacing:

The recent non-germinating seeds have been a bummer, but the good thing is that they showed me that I can improve my germinating method(s), despite not liking dealing with sprouted seeds. It’s confusing, honestly, given all the germination methods that growers use.

The other day, I looked inside one of the no-go seeds, it was cool seeing how the unformed tap root and coty leaves set inside the seed.

Well, yay on the seed today, and also that finally Adam Lambert’s pre-order for his latest album is out, but a February 24th release date, over two months. :face_exhaling: , lol. Here’s his cover of Duran Duran’s Ordinary World that’s included in the new album:

I only use my fingers gently…

I used a spoon.

Just how delicate are these sprouted seeds? Could a mere touch break them off?

I just grab with my fingers and drop it wherever it lands.

Very much so. I used to do the wet paper towel thing, but I got moldy seeds more often than I got seedlings out of it. Even then, the little micro hairs that grow out of the root will get stuck in the paper towel and rip when you remove from the towel. I felt like that contributed to stunting a couple of my early autoflowers.

Not that delicate. I haven’t broken one yet, but I wouldn’t go smacking the taproot against a counter or anything.

OK, thanks for the info.

I’ve neither done nor entertained the thought of doing the paper towel thing. Makes sense that the micro root hairs could get stuck, in addition to potential mold problems.

LOL, I’ll keep that in mind - no taproot smacking! :boom:
