Hi everyone
As I sit here contemplating the mound of harvest I’ve gotta trim, ( no complaints there!), now seems like a good time to ask about trimming. Its always in the back of my mind while trimming: am I cutting too much off and wasting good bud? How do I know how much to trim and how much to leave? I trim while freshly harvested. Any tips tricks guidance or advice would be really great right about now. Thanks in advance!
A good rule of thumb is to only defoliate as necessary to maintain good airflow within the plant’s canopy. Too much trimming can hurt yields, especially if there is a lot of space between the plant’s nodes. All that said, a lot of growers will trim off the bottom third of the plant once a few weeks into flowering. Doing this won’t harm yield so long as there isn’t excessive spacing between nodes.
I like to wet trim the larger leafs And do a final trim after slow drying process. Take in consideration, the more you take off wet trim the faster the buds will dry. 65 to 70 Degrees. Humidity 45 to 50 would be a good target for 7 to 10 days drying. Everybody’s environment And climate is a little different. Good luck
I use a bowl trimmer. It has spacers, so you can adjust how close it trims. I don’t trim at the closest, or the farthest, right in the middle. They turn out like this once dried and cured.
Whats is a bowl trimmer?
I wet trim the colas by hand and then wet trim the side buds in the bowl trimmer. I still get a good dry by starting the rh higher than people that dry trim. I’m lazy…wet trimming is easier.
Looks like this:
Agreed…I used to do it just like you…now just the colas. A bunch of us here on the forum jumped on a flash sale Amazon was having…@sandune turned us on to it last October. We got them for $59…normally $160. Best $60 i have ever spent.
BTW…nice looking buds!
Thanks. The color of the blueberry was just amazing. Rich purple buds
Yep, me too. Saves a ton of time, and effort. Probably not quite the quality of a good hand trimming, but plenty good for me since it’s just for the wife, and most of it gets made into oil eventually anyways.
Amazing color on those buds! Congrats on your results!
