My girls are a month and 4 days old. About 14 days into the veg cycle. I have them in 2 gallon smart pots and am wanting to transplant them into 5 gallon smart pots. I’ve read that you can just keep the 2 gallon pot on and put it inside of a 5 gallon pot since the roots can grow through. Would it be better to cause less stress and leave them in the 2 gallon or remove it and transfer the root ball to a 5 gallon?
I dont think roots will grow through a fabric pot. Never seen one do that ever.
My biggest concern would be drainage. This may cause mold to form due to the heat and humidity in a grow tent.
I’d transplant them without the fabric pot they are in. I personally don’t transplant as I put my seeds with tap roots straight into their grow buckets.
Ok thanks for the advice. I think on my next grow I’ll just put it straight into the final pot as transplanting probably stresses me out more than my plants haha
Might be a little tricky, but not impossible. might want to have some assistance if possible in the garden. IMO i would suggest just to plant the girls in the pot you plan to finish them in. Happy Gardening!
Transplanting is really easy. In my opinion it helps control the development of the root ball. Some people don’t transplant, and that’s fine. Doesn’t make a huge difference in the end of the plant is overall happy.
I do solo cup to 3gal to 7gal. Never had any transplant shock. I use the fabric pots too. Easiest way to go is find an old bucket smaller in circumference than your grow pot. Flip it up side down. Place grow pot on top of it. Peel fabric pot down like a condom. Works fine. The roots will tear a little bit but it’s negligible.
They will start to poke out in the bottom side but usually self trim if you will. I’ve not had problems with the fab pots and is what I primarily use
