Topping VS FIM... pros and cons?

Hey guys, I fimmed my girls a few days ago. Actually, 5 of the 6 were fimmed and the Strawberry Kush was topped (accidentally!) Anyways, its been a few days, and I’m more impressed with how the topped Strawberry looks

Here is a pic of my ak47 which was fimmed

Anyways, I wanted some other opinions from both sides of the fence! Which method do you prefer and why?

Topping takes way less time to recover from. If done right fimming produces more tops , and are usually smaller thinner branches. But if those are super cropped then they will get bigger but slow down the growth rate.

Me myself I don’t fem to often, mostly just topping multiple times a lot of lst hst a scrog net from early veg. Try it all to find what works for you, good luck :four_leaf_clover:

Haven’t tried either of those @VelcroThumb but I’m a huge fan of super cropping. You crush the stem, but don’t cut it. I think the best part is you keep the main cola, but you get side shoots almost as large as the main cola. (Maybe 2/3’s) I think this also keeps the bushyness down for those space limited growers compared to topping or dimming. This Friday, I’ll update my grow journal to include pictures of two white widows, one super cropped, and one I left alone. The numbers at harvest will tell the story, scale is on the way!
The next grow, I would like to super crop the off shoots as well, and see what kind of results I can get from that. With a first grow under my belt, I’m feeling more adventurous!

I def like the look of the topping. I am going to SCROG two plants in my tent. I did want to do some LSTing for them all!

@Covertgrower I super crop everything every branch I can get my fingers on. Even the bud branches in early flower. That plus a scrog net will equal an awesome harvest.

I am wondering if I could re-do it and top the ones I fimmed? Or supercrop!

Would you happen to have a pic of that?

@Wishingilivedina420state this project sound amazing for my two monster crop clones from my Girl Scout Cookies. Those two are going to be monsters for sure already. It’s also not a high producer, I would say maybe average. She smells great though. The sample that wasn’t ready, was very sweet and earthy. I’ll be sure to tag you into my second grow to follow along and try this too.

Thanks @Covertgrower I’d love to watch along. I promise you’ll get a better yield, bigger harder buds just with the net.

If you have the room and two of the same strain, or clones of same mother plant. Grow both ways. Letting one be a tree so to speak and scrog the other. Tag me n to the grow please.

How often do you top? Do you think i could go back and top the ones i fimmed or supercrop them?

I think that you could as long as there is a long enough stem. @VelcroThumb

Yeah you can definitely super crop, if you want to you can go back and top but it’s up to you, I’d wait to see what happens if it was me.

As for how often I top it depends on the plant realy. The first time after the 7-8 node, then after 4-5 nodes then another 4-5 . After the side branches start to take over I usually stop and just scrog.

I tend to do it all. I FIM at the 4th node. When those recover and produce 4 tops, I top them all & start supercropping them. If you’re considering SCROG, you’ll want to be less aggressive. Otherwise you will be constantly managing excess veg.
