To scrog or not to scrog?

So I am torn on what to do. This will be my first grow and wondering to scrog or not. My space is somewhat small so thinking scrog would work good. I would only be able to fit one plant for scrog or I could do 2 plants without scrogging. I have about 5 ft of headroom less with the light fixture. Strain blue dream. So looking for opinions. Thanks.

Personally, I would go with the scrog.

I’m strictly outdoor for now and I plan on using that method for my next grow next year.

I dunno…a first grow?

If there were pH problems or excess nutrients needing a flush, a non-scrog for a first grow might be better…just to learn and get comfortable with the terms and maintenance routines. There’s more to it than putting a screen over the plant.

On the other hand, some folks are good at gardening and take to more advanced techniques. If you do your research, first!

I didn’t go with a scrog for my first grow and I am glad . I am going to this time but I think I am much better prepared to make a scrog pay off the way it is supposed to. I have learned a lot on here in the past couple of months . Like the first time I considered one I had two plants to many to stuff in a scrog . Good luck with what ever you choose

You’re correct. I didn’t think of the pruning techniques involved for a beginner. I dabbled a little bit with Bonsai, so had a decent amount of experience before growing weed.

Thanks for calling me on that!

Whats up oldstoner, I didnt scrog or do much of anything to my plants because I wanted to get my maintaining schedule down first. My very first indoor grow, I decided to do 6 diff legit strains and one killer seed i had. I barely trimmed them, but gave them slight nutes with a cfl and led grow setup and I pulled it off. Now I want to get more technical with my ILGM WW grow. Here is a pic of my critical mass, couldnt enter her because shes a Canuk seed. I learned so much my first time just by watching them grow, and now I am way more confident.

This is a straight up plant with minimal nutes finished at 73 days, no trim at all, only picked off dead leaves. My Obi Wan and Power Africa look very similar to Critical Mass. Sorry guys for the big post but I wanted to show him he can get a desirable plant out of minimal experience for a first timer without anything too fancy.

Thanks! You guys bring up good points about the learning curve. I have had a vegetable garden forever. So I feel I have some skill growing plants but I understand that this is going to be a whole new animal. I leaning more towards going for the 2 plants.

Smokin, I am on my second grow, the folks on here are awesome, I am a pretty good gardener as well, been doing it for years “but” organic no nutes. I have a 2 1/2’ x 4’ x7’ grow space. After reading as much as possible decided to scrog all ILGM fem seed, 2 ww, 2 ss and 1 AK47. OMG, LST went well but messed up on nutes, then temp, hermied 2 plants did not know till harvest, ended up with 26 oz. fluffy but killer smoke. Second grow 3 AK47 fem ILGM scrog, went much better tight nugs harvest very close maybe next week, still has nute problems. Next grow will be 2 ILGM Calif dreaming plants in scrog. Im is ffof soil. Good luck and enjoy the ride. Peace…

I started with 4 and lost one to stupidity so ended up growing 3 plants and almost went to 2 so there was room to scrog in my tent but with encouragement decided to just continue with my grow and experiment on the plant I was considering
Pulling out of my grow . My tent is only 3 x 3 so my next grow will be 2 plants in a scrog to spread them out and control the height. I am thinking gold leaf and girl scout cookies. Any way the plant I experimented on is the one doing the best . Here is a couple of bud porn pics for you

I agree the folks here are awesome learning so much stuff.

So you like the ffof soil? Was thinking of using it as well. What do you start with for soil? I have been reading some say the ffof is to hot for seedlings.

You’re going to get all kinds of answers to that question I use it all the time I use nothing else and I’ve never had a problem just don’t give it any food for at least 3 weeks

These plants at link are in ffof and have been getting GH floral 3 pack (1-1-1) at 20% since they went into the soil

I’m not recommending this, this is just an experiment but what I’m saying is it’s not too hot, hope this helps

Its definitely a trial and error type of gig. I plan on using my fox farm big bloom and tiger bloom with a bit of kelp and molasses. I plan on getting a carbon feeding system worked out someday but ive been carbon feeding with the old baking soda and vinegar at times. Even though they are autos, at what week did you switch the lights to 12 12?

Here they are, in all of their 4 day old glory!

@THSee I had a timer go out and all I could figure out was they had spent like 16 hours in the dark . Being a new grower I panicked and went to flower or 12 12 lighting at just under 4 weeks veg . People who are growing autos will just leave it on 18 - 6 the whole grow to get the most out of them . I lost some yield by changing early but I will still get enough to get to the next harvest time and the buds are looking nice and they smell delicious.

I pop my seeds in water then transfer to pete pellet until seedling shows, then place pete pellet seedling into ffof solo cup until looking strong then to one gal. Again ffof and finally 7gal ffof. My problem first time was using nutes to fast. Paranorman helped me out calling for an emergent flush. Second grow same soil but waited. Good luck, my harvest pics will be up next week.

@THSee also for Co2 you can get these bags on amazon they are Exhale bags

open them up and stick them in the tent handing above your plants and they produce a constant supply after about 30 days . That is it hanging in the back of my tent

I would guess 95%+ of home gardeners don’t need to use CO2

For those who feel they want to augment, some use vinegar and baking soda, I personally used sugar and yeast
