This newbie is so confused

Seems like the more I read, the more confused I get. I have a 2x4x6 tent & I just received a 2000w led light that puts out 1385 ppfd. I paid $160. I see viparspectra 2000w with 1685ppfd for $30 less. I’m not even sure I’m looking at the right thing to make an informed

choice. I’d like to stay close to same price point. I’m in process of germinating 2 autoflowers & really want to get this right! I haven’t opened the box yet & want to get opinion if I should swap to a different light. I’m not even sure if the 2000w is too strong & I need a 1000-1500w instead. I appreciate any advice! TIA

Don’t open the box. You do not have a 2000W light. They lied to you. There are lots better folks than me to lead you to the promised land, but it’s going to cost more than $160. @dbrn32 is the resident light expert. Stand in front of a mirror and say his name 3 times.

So neither of these lights are anywhere near 2000w
Neither will cover the area they claim to cover
Neither of there par maps can be trusted either my freind.
Sorry to inform you but no cheep light is going to give you accurate information…
That 2nd one may be just enough to work fairly well in a 2x4 tent if it is actually the 220 watts it says it is in the picture. But I don’t trust them no name China brands at all. And it would still be under powered really

If they lied about one stat, I wouldn’t trust them on any of their ad copy.

Lighting is the single most critical piece of your equipment. You simply have to get it right or everything else is a waste of time, energy, and money.

If these are the lights in your budget then I’d go with the vipar out of the two.

So what would y’all recommend for this size tent in the less expensive range? Should I forget leds all together? I start my veggies in the 4x6 walk in closet that the tent will be with a few plant light bulbs & they start out well enough to get into the garden so this has my brain hurting lol. I only have 2 auto seeds germinating so should I go for smaller grow box? This is just for me & I’m not a heavy user so I’m ok with just a couple of plants at a time.

In my lighting ignorance, I guess I was just completely looking at wrong stuff & thought I was good with those. This is a great big learning curve so all info is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Easy little tent. You only want 2 auto you have a ton of room. I just took my 2x4 down.A typical samsung 301b/h 100w board push 1 plant 2x2 fine. So 200 true watts with good diodes do your 2 plants. Dimmer. Hlg is fav here and kits not too expensive. But there are others…just be sure of driver and diodes. A double pumper holley on a chevy build does same thing on a ford build. Just my 2 cents. Getting good lights and bigger than need is a good practice. If successfull growing will want more plants.

How many plants did you grow in a 2x4? I apologize but everything else was like listening to a foreign language! Lol I’m not sure I understand any of it regarding lights. Just point out anything specific ie: a link lol. True newbie. Only doing the two plants bc I didn’t want to kill all seeds on 1st attempt

Two plants is great for a 2x4. Generally you want to give a plant a 2x2 space to grow. Not sure what your budget is but one of these will be the last light you’ll ever need for a 2x4 space. Can’t link it as it’s not an approved vendor for the site but you should be able to search for it relatively easy

Check out the lights at HLG, specifically the 260w Rspec. List price on the kits (some assembly req’d) is $314, but there are discounts. Try “dude” in the discount code. If that doesn’t work, call and ask if there’s a discount available. Find them at horticulturelightinggroup dot com.

The 260 will flower a 4x2 area, and the Rspec version can be used from start to finish. All that being said, I’d wait a bit until dbrn32 checks in and gives you his opinion.

The kits require a bit of assembly, but nothing too difficult. Just need to follow the directions carefully.

Thanks! Will look up & start a list to compare regarding costs.

Bobbydigital has you set. A single point ppfd reading directly below light doesn’t tell the whole story about light output.

I have grown up to 8 2gal…crowded…6 3gal and 2 10. Lately before took it down i used it for clones. 2 5gallon in there be a perfect fit. Check on the hlg. A 1 and done is always good. Plus every piece of those hlg kits replaceable.
