Testing pH in soil

all the directions say to test the pH of your soil using distilled water -i filled a 4" pot with dry soil and added water until it dripped out the bottom and waited one hour.

question is - if i am growing outdoors and on a drip irrigation from tap shouldnt i test the pH using that same water?

Test the pH with water that you will use during the grow. You need to know what happens in the actual grow conditions.
