Starting First Grow Ever

I’m only using one bulb, I want to get more as I get more into it but atm just a 600watt hps bulb, and it’s done an amazing job

@darren, that bulb may be all it takes, big wattage! Definitely gonna make mistakes but that’s how I will learn

@darren, you said this was your first grow, correct?, what kind of “silly” mistakes were made prior to this grow if you don’t mind me asking?

Indeed it is, a lot of the advice that you have already been given with proper gator and domes and heat mats are all the mistakes that I myself made, so your already getting great advice, be ready for this to take up lots more room than you first thought and to start taking over your life very quickly and you will find it so rewarding, I am very close to getting my first yield and then I’m sure I’ll be even more addicted, happy growing my friend

The mistakes were soaking the seeds properly but not drowning the seeds, starting the plants off in a proper gator with dome and heat mat or you can loose seedlings that you’ve managed to get that far, my first 5 seeds , 3 of durban poison and 2 gold leaf and I only had one to show for it, I would definitely recommend going down the scrog route, which I knew nothing about until I kept seeing it on this site, so first time grow and I scrogged it aswell, check out scrogging, I would highly recommend this my brother,i have to tell you my friend this is literally my first time ever growing anything at all, so it’s not like I had any growing tricks or experience before doing mine

@darren, I’m very interested in acrog method, I have tent so it may be beneficial for me to get good at this, read a lot about how to do it but I need to do it to get experience. Did your scrog increase your yield? What did you use for scrog, trellis netting, I have a lot to learn

I have not had my yield yet but I used string for mine, but what I would recommend for this is taking the time to make a frame, I didn’t do this, but the scrog is a perfect way to make sure you lower branches get the light, but ask questions as I can’t remember their names off the top of my head but their are scrog specialists on here and it will definitely increase your yeild by 4 times easily, probably even more than that, get yourself a ph tester and I would recomend Robert Bergman flower power nutrients, this will also increase your yield,I would also recommend looking at cloning, it’s taken me a while but I think I’m getting it? and then you get whole new plants from your mother plants and it’s quicker to get these at this stage to grow than to get seeds to this level, and it will save you a lot of money and time  happy growing buddy , @hillcrest21678 is the master when it comes to scrogging, I have remembered while flicking through today, it was chatting with him that convinced me to scrog on a first time grow, I’m sure if you want some one to talk to about it, he’s a really friendly fella and I’m sure he’d talk to you, if as I am flicking around any other helpful names come to me I’ll add them to you

@darren, yes I thought about yarn but maybe a PVC frame that could be lowered and raised and then use some type of yarn or trellis netting. You must be excited as your plants are full of buds and blooming! Got to be a good sense of accomplishment

It’s an amazing feeling I just can’t tell you,I’m 5ft 8 and she is almost as tall as me, getting to the stage where my jewelers loop is going to be able to get some use, but she still has a good bit of growing yet, I can’t wait for my first yield but already it’s more rewarding than winning something, because it’s all my hard work that’s done this and some help from my sister who Is an angel

@Countryboyjvd1971, good morning, I wanted to ask a quick question. I have my 3 seeds in jiffy pots, on heated mat at 82 degrees. They have been in there since Friday morning, so roughly 2 days. They are in a little propagator set up. Is there an average time for seeds to pop out of soil? The jiffy pots they are in are peat miss pellets. Should I put the cfl light on over them? Thanks for your response and enjoy your Sunday!

@Edensgarden, I know patience is a virtue, lol, I need to get better at that cause I’m not the most patient…Feel like a kid at Xmas waiting to open my presents!

@zombo i know what you mean. I used to be super impatient but im getting better at it. Cant wait to see how yours turn out. Im just finishing my first start to finish indoor grow and its been an amazing experience. I only told 2 of my friends about it (people i trust with my life) and its a great feeling when they stick their head in and the only thing thay say is “DAMN DUDE”. My plants arent the best but for some bagseed to say im satisfied would be an understatement. So happy with them. You will be too. Keep reading up on things. You have plenty of time to learn. I have made a lot of improvement with knowledge since i started in december. And when i started i thought i knew enough. WRONG. Indoor is a tad more than just tossing seeds outside and letting mother nature do the grunt work. Thats what im more used to.
