Please advise: I have been spraying with organics. Mites are less, but there are those black poppy-seed looking (eggs?) in the buds of one of the plants. Is that plant done for?
Depends on how bad the infestation is… when you say in the buds are they really inside or just on the outer surface?Id probably let it keep growing just get some food grade diatomaceous earth and apply light dusting when needed. At harvest I wash all my buds in a bucket of water to get all dust bugs and anything that isnt supposed to be there off by lightly dunking in a bucket of water until clean.
Thank you DankThumb. Seems like a new-ish infestation. Seems like the (turns out it’s mite feces) black things are just on the surface of the buds, mainly on one plant.
When you say apply a light dusting, do you mean sprinkle the diatomaceous earth onto the plant? Like, chuck small handfuls onto the plant?
I use a spoon and get a good spoon full broken up in the bag by lightly scooping it up then shaking spoon slightly in bag so it breaks up and not clumpy and ready to be lightly sprinkled. Sprinkle on infected areas. I wash my buds so a lil DE on the buds is fine in my case
Thanks again. I just used on old shaker and applied liberally onto infected plants, then shook them for a thinner coat. Maybe wash in the morning?
The wash isnt needed until harvest when the buds are done growing. Just re apply when it’s looking like theirs little to none left.
Applied DE last night, as we spoke about. This morning I find a few leaves looking like the following photos. Could this be because I washed them down fairly aggressively before applying the DE?
Yeah when it gets wet it tends to change consistency. Should be fine. Just apply DE when you are expecting her to be dry for a few days. After a few days you can spray again but it will make the DE do that…
If you’re growing in soil, have you amended with earthworm castings?
They help fortify the plant as well as condition the soil.
A dry dusting of food grade diatomaceous earth on soil prevents bugs from hatching…
Thank you! Sets my mind at ease!
So you can put DE On the flowers? I am having a bug problem. Once my ww autos started to flower I stopped the DE and within a day or two the leaves started getting munched. My other plants that aren’t autos are still covered in DE and no munch bites. Don’t want to ruin the buds you know
@Dr.DankThumb420
When I’ve used it I try not to put it on the flowers if you get some on there at harvest time that’s when you wash your buds
That’s what I was thinking Hogmaster. I think that’s what Dr.Dank was saying too. Seems like a good idea to get intese coverage to destroy as many pests as you can get the DE to. Then dunk them right at harvest…
I mean you can, it won’t hurt, but they will need washing at harvest. Like @Farmtown said,keep a nice layer on the plants so its always at maximum effectiveness. I went crazy a few times and the buds did get some de on them but it came right off at harvest after washing. Just try to layer it in thin with small amount on a spoon, on all the fan leafs. I do it like this so if any gets on flowers it’s just a lil dust and not a big clump. I get a big spoonful and shake it on spoon in bag until it breaks loose and not clumpy then I pour most off just until theres enough for the tip off spoon then I do a side to side shake motion to get it as thinly layered as I can. But the positive is that any de that lands on buds will keep them directly off the buds…
Thank you. It’s chomp city over here. Spiders grass hoppers flies and about10 other mf insect species I don’t know. But anyways they will be DE dusted tonight
