I was surprised to find that silica not only helps develop strong limbs and cells, but is also important in trichome development.
Found this article, (and several others), talking about the importance of silica for photosynthesis, warming the plant and trichomes.
"Roles of trichomes with silica particles on the surface of leaves in Aphananthe aspera
In conclusion, we have theoretically revealed the role of trichomes with silica particles on the surface of leaves in Aphananthe aspera . Trichomes mainly absorb far-infrared light, which would efficiently warm plants. Studies in nature might suggest interesting applications. In this respect, our findings are valuable. For example, if the scale of the trichome were on the order of visible-light wavelengths, this structure would efficiently absorb visible light, which would be useful for the enhancement of photosynthesis."
I’m likely just be late to the dance, but if you are in hydro you clearly should add SI.
