I started seeing bottom fan leaves turning yellow in week 4 of flower on my outdoor auto wedding cake. My fabric pots were filled with organic GAIA Green, using their living soil mixed with all purpose 4-4-4 and worm castings. I top dressed at the beginning of flower with a ratio of %25 all purpose 4-4-4 / %75 power bloom 2-8-4 and at week 4 with %100 2-8-4. Amendments were added at recommended rates and I water (pH 6.5-7) when the 5gal pots are light.
I have the same strain growing indoors with the same soil, stage of life and watering routine on a 18/6 light schedule that doesn’t have any issues.
Considering I have a plant with yellowing leaves outdoors and a plant indoors with no problems, I thought maybe it was the heat wave were having this week with temps at 30-36C (86-97F) but decided to check the water runoff pH anyways. With runoff pH at 5, I flushed the soil with about 10gal of pH neutral water and after pH raised to 6 I stopped.
Should have I flushed the soil or is it the high temps? I dunno, so many things it could be. Should I top dress again after flushing? She was looking nice until about a week ago and would love for her buds to fatten up.
Happy growing everyone and let me know what you think. Peace!
Bottom leaves yellowing is common. If living soil never flush. Takes weeks to rebuild the life. If you feel you are light on nutes top dress the soil with the bloom nutes or whatever your nute line says. Living soils are slower so any issues take a bit longer to fix. Flushing just kills it off. Flushing for some nute lines is necessary. Not living soil.
Typical living soil self adjusts. If it is healthy it will. I never ph and my water is 8.5 to 10 at times. Reservoir full of minerals. I grow the soil itself. Keep it moist and healthy. It grows the plants. Magnesium is a typical issue and i reuse the soil keeping it alive always. Try 1 tblspn epsom salt. Pure. No chemicals/colors/scents. Top dress it around your girl. Just water it in in normal watering. Most likely need a myco boost since flushed but if have some live soil or the nute line has the life in it as dry spores reignite the life. If the nute line has the bacteria and fungi then 3 tblspn in 1 gallon water. Shake well. Apply immediatly to restart the soil. Takes a week or 2 to really take off. Flushing a living soil flushes the nutes the soil broke down right on out. If cant restart the soil then will have to use a liquid nutrient till harvest. Killing the life does not kill the plant. It kills the ability to self regulate ph and break down nutrients in the soil. Breaks the partnership between plant and the life in soil. Like i said…grow the soil and the plant will follow. Just rules i follow with success. My grows are good and SUPER laid back easy.
Seems your leaves may have started turning at 4 weeks mesns its probably time to topdress again. The high heat could be making the problem worse, drying the soil out more and possibly dropping the ph.
Flushing is best avoided in and organic living soil situation as it can negatively effect the microbiology populations in the soil. I would recommend also doing a tea or microbe boost to help balance the soil back out, this will also help the soil maintain a good ph balance on its own.
Be chatting with you soon @Roadsideorganics.ok . Getting low on my ED and @MeEasy has approved you guys…lol. That is all the backing you need for me.
Week 4 youll start to see some fading as @Storm stated. No need to flush living soil bro. If using dry amendments, i would scratch into the soil and water in. If you need something readily available, you could always brew up a compost tea. Is ED what im thinking ED is?
Oh thats what i was thinking seriously… i just wasnt going to hint at it… i couldve gone the other way with it though lol… do you have a store @Roadsideorganics.ok ?
Yes we do, im not supposed tp post it here in the forum, but if you google Roadside Organics Oklahoma we are usually the first result. Code ILGM10 for a little off if you choose to go with us.
It is not. I might be mistaken but I know the ED has myco and critters in it. Not sure if Highway Dust does. Other than that it is a dry ammendment also.
