ok, total newbie. I have seeds that just broke through my soil. I have them starting in the small peat containers. when can I put them under my higrow 1000w light. the thing is a beast. I have it rigged up with a pully system in a closet like environment. I can raise the light to 5 feet from the floor of the closet. thanks
Before the experts have a chance to ask for it, pictures would be an enormous help. Good luck with the grow!
Welcome to ilgm
That light will be a bit much so do keep it away from your sprouts. I’m not a huge fan of the peat plugs but they do work. My advice: buy a bottle of distilled water $.94 at Wally World and use that only until well established. Plant needs no nutes! Once in soil you will only water for some time. A clear dome over the top and misting it with water twice a day is all the moisture you need.
Remember the seedling derives moisture from air until taproot is formed. About 10 days.
thanks for the reply. they are currently sitting on a folded paper towel while sitting on a heat mat. and the light is one of those round shop lights with a magnifier lens, says 22w daylight on the light. I was using a spray bottle with bottled water Aquafina or some type like it. I will pick up distilled for sure. now that 3 of 4 germinated, should I remove the heat mat? I do have 4 foot led shop lights available, thoughts on those? thanks again.
The small light down just above a dome will work. I like to transplant into a neutral media like seed starter soil (make very sure there is nothing added–no moisture control, no ‘needs no fertilizer’ etc) using a red Solo cup with a gazillion holes poked in it with a red hot nail. VERY slightly damp. A clear Solo cup on top which you remove and spray a mist of distilled into then place back over sprouts. Do that for two weeks, adjust light closer if stretching, then remove dome and get ready to transplant.
Yup just a lil 10-20w cfl will be plenty. Heck 4-6w will do fine first week or two.
should I leave the light on 24/7 or shut it off for a few hours?
First week 24/0 is fine. After 18/6 til ur ready to flower. Then 12/12
I think i have issues here. Seedlings looking weird. Help!
Leaves are yellowing and some are flat out dying. I had them under a higrow 1000w light set 45 inches above them. I pulled them out and transplanted into current containers. Using organic potting soil for potted plants. Soils is damp. I stopped watering. Haven’t used any nutrients yet. Currently under an led shop light. Ph 6.5. 72 degrees 60 humidity,
I’m going to let an expert weigh in, but i wouldn’t water anymore. What kind of soil is that?
It’s an organic soil for indoor/outdoor potted plants.
Help! Me please
That Organic soil may be too hot. If it has a bunch of mulch it it probably is. I burnt up two myself. Now I only use soil that is intended for cannabis. I’m using happy frog right now. There’s tons of different soils out there. Good luck and welcome to the best place you can be. @Myfriendis410 @PurpNGold74 @Oldguy what are y’alls opinion?
Just burn, they’ve grown out of it already. You need to separate the plants before they rootbound.
Maybe post a pic of the soil bag and label with n p k ratios. At 45 in it shouldn’t be the light causing this.
Second the separation of plants. 1 plant 1 pot.
I’m going to wait for some of the other tagged fellows to see this. Looks to be more for flowers than weed. Not saying it won’t grow it but …
@Myfriendis410 is on west coast so may be a bit before he chimes in.
Peace for now.
I concur. This is why I asked you about your soil. I guessed that it was too hot.
Also like member 420 days, separate the seedlings. Two in one isn’t going to work out the way you want. Transplant them into a soil made for that/seedlings or a soil with nothing added, at least eight around the seedling. I’ve seen people use say like a solo cup worth or a little more of the transplant soil surrounded by the organic. Thought is that by the time the roots reach the organic it can take it. I’ll share what many have told me , less is more.
