Cool, I have lots of male seeds here. I am going to drop one tonight to check this out. That way I am not out any thing for just testing it out.

I finally got one to pop! Four days in water, in the dark (I was keeping them under lights before); have it in rooting medium now, and it has 4 tiny leaves after a week (three in water, 4 in medium). When the roots are through the potlet of medium, I plan to put that into a bag of soil. Yay!
My mat does seem hot, I haven’t taken a temp, but I will.
I think the difference was in water only, and in the dark. I put the lights up about 8" more, too, so they aren’t too close to the seedling.
It was a feminized white widow seed that finally was my first success. I’m going to try another, same method. I’m so psyched!
