Seedling deformation?

Hello all! So I had something outside the normal happen to me.

So I dropped three Maui seeds , like normal with the soaking and paper towel method. All three sprouted and were in their rockwool homes within 48 hours, and all sprouted the next 24.

Upon inspection 1 out of the three sprouts were seemingly off. Now I know genetic makeup is different in All seeds and strains , but after this one. Sprouted, I didn’t see any sign of serrated leaves for at least 4-5 DAYS. Now on the other 2 sprouts (and usually all seeds I’ve ever done) once they see air and light, the serrated leaves start to form around 24 hours after the cotys open, in forms of little membrane dots.

I let the seed continue to grown along with its others and now it’s exactly 9 days form SPROUT and it looks like this, with no signs of any new growth or leaves… has anyone ever had this happen to them before, and is it worth continuing?

All you can do is let her grow out and see how she does. We’ve seen some impressive results from shaky looking young plants.

Just like @MidwestGuy said, time will tell. I’ve had deformed seedlings that I eventually tossed because they weren’t improving, and I’ve also had some that looked really bad initially and then straightened out and were awesome plants.

Definitely gonna continue her and see what it ends up to be. I have another two that are heathy and thriving so I have some room to play. Thanks for the reply :+1:t4:

It does look strange though. There isn’t the typical upgrowth after the first true set of leaves. Looks like she permanently topped herself. You see what Im seein?

I just bagged a Maui Wowie for curing that started out almost just lije that. First 2 or 3 sets of leaves were funkdefied. She stared foxtailing real bad on me, and producing nanners, but the smoke is good. Smells of pineapple soda.

This will be my second run of it, first gave me some real beautiful stuff. Definitely Hoping the seedling pulls through so I can get two going at once and see if it gives me some different phenos.

Yes!!! and I have that condition in fact right now.

The seedling topped itself so to speak after just one set of regular leaves.

I ended up cutting the stopped top and let the first set of sprouts grow out.

Now it is this huge beast on the right of this picture. Never give up!

I have hope!! How long did that take around? I’m hoping it catches up to her sister who shares a tent. She’s around double this one’s size right now,

She is beating the other regular photoperiod in the race to harvest.

It really didn’t slow the veg time at all.

Its first (and only) set of leaves looked wrinkly just like yours. And no more growth coming out of the top just like yours.

Here is the finished underside… I just trained it into a manifold

Zoom in here to see what the failed top looked like… As long as you have tiny new branches coming out from below the top like this, yours will be okay I think.

Good luck!

Awesome! I’m gonna wait till the little side branches grow up taller and then try a top the part with stagnant/no growth! I love seeing stuff like this, it’s a curveball but it really gets you prepared for anything !

This Super Silver Haze looked like it was going to die. Here it was at about 12 days since emerging from the soil:

Here it is today 57 days later:

If they make it past the seedling stage, they will often surprise you.

I’m with you on that!

When I had mine, I was like “You’ve got to be kidding! The top stopped?”

I posted pictures like you did and others chimed in and said she will work it out and she did.

I guess nature finds a way.

Small update/question.

It’s starting some new growth outside of the deformed part, and I know you said you topped yours. Does this look about the time you chopped your deformed growth off ? Or should I give her another week or so .
TIA :pray:t4:
