I’m having a problem, I got these seeds don’t know how fresh they are. I got them to pop and I put them in peat pellets. They wont grow. They rot first and plug don’t feel that wet. I had no problem the first time. Plants are nice. What am I doing wrong. I’m gonna try soil instead of peat
If they’re rotting then the peat is too wet. Personally, I don’t like peat pellets. If you want a better solution to growing seedlings you should try Rapid Rooters, they’re pretty fool-proof.
@raustin I’m gonna get some.
Good luck. It should work well for you. They are like sponges, so they hold a lot of air and allow the roots to really breathe, which also stops root rot and dampening off.
@raustin can I ask one more thing? Do I.put them in a tray with a dome?
A tray, like with water? Don’t have them sitting in water, but don’t let them dry out either. Just spray them with some water when they look dry and then put them under the dome.
No I’m not going to let them stand in water but I wanted to use a dome til sprout them ill remove. These I’m going to plant outside I live in a hot humid state
You should keep them under the dome for the first two weeks.
Thank you, @WonkaMan, that’s very sweet of you.
@raustin yesterday I got a small eight cell with humidity dome til I can get to a hydro store. I filled it with ff and added perlite. 2 out of 3 popped thru the soil today…thank you so much for all your help. I might reach out to you again!
That’s great news! Anytime you need me just tag me. I’m happy to help.
I’ve had similar results with the peat pots; plus they don’t break down well in their final home. I was going to suggest using media like Promix or coco but FF and perlite is a great way to go. Like @raustin said: keep them domed and VERY little water. What you have to remember is the seedlings take in all of their moisture (until the tap root forms) through the leaves. Misting the dome and no more than a couple of teaspoons per day is plenty.
I’m having the same problem with jiffy pots. My seedling has been an inch tall for a week. Too wet I fear. I had no idea seedlings only took in water from the leaves.
I just ordered the rapid rooters. I’m going to soak a new seed and use the rooter. I’m sure it’ll overtake my runt by next week. BTW using an auto AK 47 from this amazing site
@Myfriendis410 I threw out peat pots. I rather do it this way. I planned three and two popped thru spill over nite. So ill keep doing it this way. Thank you!
After I have soaked my seeds for 24hrs in ph neutral water I plant directly into their forever pot . The forever pot is saturated with a mild veg nute solution to the point of runoff. The freshly sprouted seed is then placed into a handful of seed raising mix on top of my organic mix and is sprayed lightly with a small spray bottle to just moisten the seed raising mix. That is all the water I apply for the next ten days.the moist seed raising mix is enough to keep the seedling alive until it taps into the presoaked soil mix. It seems to work well and also prevents overwatering.
Good idea! I would only suggest you don’t add any nutrients to the main bulk of media as they don’t need it for a couple of weeks.
I sprouted some home grown seeds (Sour Diesel) and it took 7 days for a couple of them to pop. Just an FYI.
@raustin afternoon, why are these leaves turning yellow on the bottom? They are planted in fox farm with perlite I just water them. Humidity is at 65%. Temp is bout 81. Here’s a picture.
They need to be transplanted, like yesterday. They are rootbound in those plastic cups.
Ok ill do it today thank you
