Run off cleanup

Hey all. New grower here.

I had a question about run off that I have yet to see a thread on.

When you guys water. Do you clean up all the runoff under your pots? Or do you allow it to evaporate?

I do have my pots raised on plant caddy’s.

Welcome to the forum.

I built a little pump to drain the saucers. Not doing so results in higher humidity and the crap that builds up in stagnant water like mold and algae.

The pump is a 12v, 70 watt, 6L a minute. The power supply is a 70 Watt Waterproof IP67 Power Supply. I mounted it on a 1x6 and added some 1/2" vinyl hose for input and output.

I do it the most dangerous and labor intensive way. I use drink trays with lifters. After watering I completely remove the plant to then lift and pour liquid out of the tray. It is always a balancing act to not pour it all over the floor or table. Ringing the bucket is a challenge as well.
I have been trying to think of a better way and @dbrn32 seems to have found it for me. :+1:
Headed over to Amazon now.

I have a couple different types and sizes. My largest will hold about a quart and the smaller maybe a little less.

Pay attention to what size you’re getting And make sure they’ll fit your pots.

Shop vac works best for me.
I’m using 2x4 flood tables for my drain pans.
I Just use a couple blocks under the pots for a lil extra clearance to the pan.

Probably, but seems like it would be close. I would measure to be sure. If it’s not look around at other brands for larger size. You want them to fit with some room to catch the stuff that runs out sides of fabric pots.

The riser i use now is 13 inches. With a 1-1/2 inch
Space around the pot.

That should work

The number of plants has a lot to do with it. I have a 3x3 and would grow 4 plants in 5 gallon fabric pots. I used two elevated racks with saucers below to catch runoff.
Something like this

As to your original question I would say “depends on if I need more humidity or less humidity”

@dbrn32 nice link.

The joy with autopots is there is no run off… Unless something went terrify wrong haha
