Remove the glass plate on LED's?

Hey all, just wondering if removing the glass plate on these box type LED’s like the king led and others that have it. I would think it would be better if there’s no water issues.
On other thing can you just get rid of all the “box” and just hang the board/sink kind of like a qb? Maybe stupid questions but I bet others have tried it… I’d like to know the results Lol!

The lights should be sealed in the glass to not only protect from water but to direct heat upward. If you have a proper humidity if 50 % in your room that will rise right into the electronics and wiring.

Thanks for the reply, just curious as to why the QBs don’t have them is all, if there more efficient without the glass… I’m sure moisture is a factor for sure.

My HLG’s are not sealed with glass but their design and construction is superior to that of the average Mars hydro or king in my opinion. The HLG is aluminum and flat with no gaps vs. a lot of the blurples made with this gauge painted steel and openings in many places. The drivers are fairly sealed as well on the HLG.

The good ones dont have glass because it takes away from the output. My phytomax 2’s come pre built in a box with fans for cooling no glass just open board . The box is there to make airflow proper and protect parts.

I had a Phytomax 2 400 until the cops got it.:frowning:

The glass does block some light, up to you on whether you want to remove it or not. You probably shouldn’t be hosing down the light with or without it. Ditching the case may be bigger issue. The wiring on most of those lights is a disaster.

Dam, that sux! Dont wish that on anyone!

Thanks @dbrn32, kinda what I figured, Lol. Havent opened one up but with drivers and fans and all figured it be a mess. Moisture isnt a problem, just read somewhere just what you said, blocks some light…removing it made a noticeable difference in yield they said. ? No pics … wouldn’t think it would be Thanks

Best to just remove the whole light and replace it with a better one.

I don’t know if it would be big difference. depending on grade of glass, the light transmission loss is probably only a couple %.
