Quick Question - PVC Fittings

Hey everyone,

I have a simple question but can’t seem to find an answer. What I want to do is connect 1-1/2" schedule 40 PVC to 3/4" flexible tubing. What do I need? I spent an hour at Lowe’s and over an hour on Google but can’t find out.

My 396 gallon per hour pump has an barbed inlet for 3/4" tubing and a similar outlet. I want to use 1-1/2" PVC for my RDWC returns, and have the pump connected to the return, pumping into my res. The pumps outlet is no problem. I’ll just connect the tube to the 3/4" outlet and run it into the res. But for the inlet side of the pump, I have to connect my 1-1/2" schedule 40 to the 3/4" barbed inlet.

Hopefully, I don’t have to change anything else.

Thanks to anyone who can help. Feel free to tag anyone who may know. As long as they wouldn’t mind being tagged. Thanks.

Edit: To simplify, the connection would go like this:
1-1/2" PVC to ? to 3/4" tube. Lol.

My pump can be used as inline or submersible. So I could always go the submersible route and not need the connection between the pvc and barbed inlet, but I worry about the heat from the pump getting my nute solution too warm. I’m gonna have to go without a chiller this first time. But my res will be outside of my tent, and the room temp never gets above 65 F even in summer.

1-1/2" - 3/4" female adapter and a 3/4" male barbed fitting. If I am understanding you correctly :v:

The 3/4" male barbed fitting came with the pump and will serve as the inlet. So I would need a way to connect the pvc to a another 3/4" male barb fitting. Then I could just connect the 3/4" tube to it and the pump inlet.

Exactly. You will need, 1-1/2" - 3/4" female adapter and a 3/4" male barbed fitting. Glue the fitting on the 1-1/2".Screw the 3/4" male barbed fitting into adaptor, connect tube between 2 barbed fittings

Thanks. By the way, those things I need should be available at Lowe’s, right?

Home depot has a great selection of pvc fittings and reducers. I went from 2 inch pvc to a 3/4threaded to 1 inch barb. Check them out.
Lowes is the wrong place for most projects unless you want to decorate.

The blue is a barb on one end and threaded on other . Goes into a threaded pvc plug that glues into a coupler then onto the pipe.
Just a pic to help. All from home depot in store.

Same as @repins12 is explaining. Just a pic to see.

Cool. Thanks. The only problem is that the closest Home Depot to me is 28 miles away. I might make the trip though. That’s the thing I miss about living in NJ. There was a Home Depot every 2 or 3 miles, lol.

Check online first with them. I’ll see if I can find the parts as well and screen shot what they are named there. You just need from 1 1/2 pvc pipe to 3/4 barbed ?

Here is the barb.

Be sure to use thread tape on threads.

I cant find the other part.

It’s called a bushing. Pain in butt. If your store has the barb it’s worth going there to piece the rest to pvc.

I found it under female adaptor :v:

I was gonna say melt them together with a torch and soldering iron. Just kidding…

That actually sounds like something I would do… Ha ha.
