Questions And Advice Would Be Appreciated On My Setup

Wow that’s crazy. How are so many folks doing it with one light? The sale page is packed full of reviews like this. Then how are they doing it? I don’t buy that they are all fake reviews. There are way too many of them.

I’m sorry I should of stated, you can grow anything under any kind of light you want. Growing something worth your time is a different story

I want to grow whats in your first picture. As the pictures show in my OP just 2 plants. I’m not looking to grow a forest. LoL

Forest looks sweet don’t get me wrong. But I don’t need all that. Im just growing for personal and will likely only grow auto flowers since I only have about 3 1/2 ft to work with in height.

I just need a system that will grow. Just like I told the prepper folks in another forum tonight. I’m not a super cool high speed ultra para trooping tactical operator. I don’t need the $500 bug out bag. Im not looking to impress my friends. I’m looking to just grow a little weed within my budget.

That’s fine, best of luck. Look up watts/gram. You may want to add another light.

That area I’m showing is only a 4x4 space, 4 plants no scrog. I also started with a 250w burple light

Wow that looked like a lot bigger than 4 x 4. Yes i am considering a second light very heavily. But I don’t have a need for more than that unless I grow more plants at once. Maybe in the future. Believe me I wish I had a fortune to throw at it. If we keep getting these large decal orders I will be able to. That’s the life of self employment. At least I am my own boss and I don’t even have to get dressed to go to work lol.

BTW I thought that was a lot more than 4 plants. Wow.

And I did read about how you can estimate 1 gram per watt. Which is what got me considering a second light. It’s mainly just me using the product for now. I have joint issues and deal with a lot of pain and anxiety. My girlfriend has cerebral palsy and walks with forearm crutches. Shes never smoked or been under the influence in her 41 years of life. I plan to make some edibles for her when I can. She wants to try it but doesnt want to smoke it.

I don’t blame her, you can do a lot with edibles and not have to worry about hurting your lungs.

A 2nd may help a lot but look into something with a high bloom wattage

Well I am of the belief that you can grow under just about any light made for horticulture. The question comes do you want to, I know that I choose not to use those lights.

Will your light grow cannabis yes it will. Will it produce nice tight buds…I don’t think so. I believe what you will end up with are “larf” type buds. These are open and airy. Do they work sure. Are they super pretty, that is in the eye of the beholder.

Right now you are at 22.5 watts per square foot. A lot of people shoot for 30+ But that is not the only number to consider (which I just learned, again). The other thing to look at is the ppf of a light. Your light does not list not even list ppf a good ppf is above 2micro mols/second. Many lights are above 2.5. Another number to look at is total ppf delivered. I have also seen this as ppd the light I’m using delivers 700 which is about where you want to be for flowering. Again the light you are using does not list that value. I’m currently at 27.5 watts/square foot. Not much more than your light but the quality of the light is better and I believe it will get me close to the gram/watt off 3 plants.

I tell you all this so you can start to understand why people recommend more and especially different lights to people. We all put a lot of time and effort into our grows it is only understandable we want the best out.

Will your light grow cannabis sure. If that is what you can afford or choose to afford great. If you can go a little better we think you may be happier with the end result. Once you buy 2 or 3 of those lights you will have the same $ into them as a higher quality light.

I would recommend finish this grow with the light you have. Then reassess. Your girlfriend may hate using cannabis and you may never grow again. Then again she may love it.

I start my plants under Spydr X with dimmer pack and it works fine. But Im able to dial it down to about 25 percent for optimum seedling growth, plus the light is 24 inches away.

@TheWatchman I popped in this thread
I’m thinking height of light - didn’t see it mentioned here unless I missed it. How close is your light? Too far away can be an issue as well, make sure your light isn’t really high above the plant (s) or too close. Even in a short tent.

@neofirebird yes that is one of the biggest things I need to be answered. I do have the light up kind of high. I’m not sure how high I should keep it above. Believe me, I’ve searched the internet tirelessly and I see a million answers which is why I posted here giving pictures of my setup and specs because I know all of that plays a role. I don’t want to burn them and at the same time, I don’t want them stretching to reach the light. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Refresh my memory how tall is the tent and how high is the top of the planter?
I had with a lower actual power light like you at first. I’d keep it about 24" then move it closer to top of canopy as they veg out eventually getting as close as nearly 12" with your light you shouldn’t have to worry.
Re: carbon filter you’ll want one but won’t need it until six or more weeks - however to achieve positive air pressure, actually you’ll want it just slightly sucking the tent in. I run a secondary fan pulling fresh cool air in and is the best way imo to achieve both cooling and maintaining temps under control, which you can use to affect your humidity as well. I had a 600 watt white full spectrum light then bought a second of the same. Midway through last grow I got serious in my commitment and got the Mars Hydro ts 2000w upgraded tent too from a 20"x36". I thought I was gonna grow 3 or 2 plants in there. I did but was a pain in the a**. Now I’m in a 4’x4’ and the Mars Hydro runs cooler than even a single cheapie light.

PS I adjusted the light hangers to make them take as short - height of hanger affected being able to pull them up high enough in a stretch to not be too close. Don’t forget like I did my five gallon buckets are tall and affect the lighting adjustability I had.

@neofirebird My tent is 2 ft by 4 ft and 5 ft tall. The top of my planters is 12" off the ground. If I raise my light as high as I can get it right now I can get a distance of 38" above the top of the planters. If I reroute the filter hose I might be able to raise it about 3 more inches or so. I can’t get much higher than that even if I mount the lights to the upper supports.

I already have a carbon filter installed and set up to pull just enough to suck the sides of the tent in without making it look like it’s going to collapse lol.

I do have the money now to invest in another one of the lights like I have and I’m seriously considering it. For 2 plants I would think 2 of these lights would be plenty. I can’t afford a top tier setup nor am I intending to. Just growing a little personal.

Looks pretty good. Even with autos they can get tall, taller than you’d want or have space for them. I see your planter stands are 10" high which is nice but you might wanna consider having something lower for when they grow bigger.
I know it’s a pain in the ass to adjust your light with the air filter already up but not as bad to “fix” now before your plants are crowded halfway to the lights. I also recommend reading up on lst.

Note the light hangers can be made shorter between the light and hanger. That gave me extra space see pic - old light hanging unused in New tent

@neofirebird I do have my cables doubled up. As it is I can get the light about 2-3" away from the top if the 4" vent hose was moved. And as for the plant stands they are 10" in diameter. Only 3" high.

My bad 3" is great. My pic wasn’t best example had to steal parts to hang new light I had bought. Create all the vertical height now while you have space to work. I was thinking only thing left was the gap between top and light hangers. :smirk: I’ll be watching this thread. Just do the best with what you have as you enjoy learning to grow. Then learning to cure.

I hope to order the second light on Monday. I have AK-47 Auto seeds germinating as I type. I can’t wait!

I do have an update on the ratings of the light. I did purchase a second light. The manufacturer of these lights appears to be Yehsence. Even my iPlantop light came in a box with a Yehsence label. The second light I bought does have the Yehsence name on the light and although the housings have a few very minor differences the internals are identical. iPlantop was out of the black version and I’m kind of OCD in I didn’t want one black light and one white one. However the ad for the Yehsence light has more info on PAR and whatnot.
