Question about trimming and how much

So I was curious, I’ve read a few times people reference trimming off anything below the 3rd or 4th node. Is that referring to the 3rd r 4th note on every chute? How much of the little stuff should I cut off down around the bottom half of the plant?

That’s called lollipopping. You can find some good YouTube videos to show you how.

Are you growing indoor or outdoor?

I’ve done it and gotten fat buds up top. Hard to say how far down the plant you go (as in which nodes to keep). I think that depends on your light penetration. Anything that’s not getting a lot of light can be taken off as part of the lollipop method.

I remove all growth below the 3rd node, this is the node from the main not side branch growth nodes. :love_you_gesture:

. Leave #3 and remove the growth below

That’s probably something you would typically do pretty early into the grow right? I wouldn’t want to go chop them off at this point would I?

The bud growth below the 3rd node will never develop into any decent smokable buds. You can remove that growth anytime Growmie and sweet looking ladies :love_you_gesture:

I remove the bottom 3rd of the plant during veg right up to right before it starts to flower. Then at day 21 of flower I remove anything thats not gonna make it to the outside perimeter or up to the canopy. Then 21 days later I remove anything that looks like it will be larf.

Yes bottom third defoliate when going to flower.

It pushes all the nutrients to the tops where there is also light. Win win strategy

Hey @VirginiaGrowBoy, just wanted to give you a shout as a fellow Va. grower. Not sure where you are, but I’m in Sutherland. Are you going to the harvest festival at Lake Front Winery next month?

Well good to meet you! My family is originally from around Bluefield W. Va., so I love me some Blue Ridge Mountains. I hope the grows go well for you up there. :sunglasses:

Small world. My grandparents lived on S. College Ave in Bluefield, VA

I know Bluefield, Princeton Graham and Tazwell Co. pretty well.

My grandad owned a Gulf gas station in Bluefield split down the middle of WV and VA. The cash register was in VA so that’s what state they counted it in  :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Small indeed! I’m certain we used to stop at your grandad’s gas station every time we went to visit. :exploding_head:
My folks were from Crystal & Montcalm in Mercer Co. There’s even some roads in Crystal with my mom’s families name because they were the only ones left after the mining company pulled out and gave my grandad his house just so they didn’t have to deal with it. :joy:
I’d like to go back and see it, even though everyone is past now. I loved it there as a kid.
