Question about Temperature

I live in the south and by are standards its been pretty cool this winter. 40’s night time 60’s during then day. I had 10 plants that needed to go into my 4x4 tent due to size. The tent is outside. I’m leaving the lights on to keep them warm,78 F, however, a few of the plant, the leaves are starting to turn yellow. I know 24-7 light from past experience is not the right thing to do.

My question what can a plant survive in terms of temp. Is 60 F the cut off? Its supposed to warm up in the next week but night will still be in the mid 50’s. I have insulated the tent with blankets to keep the heat in. Installing a heater is not an option at this time due to power constraints.

Any thoughts? Thank you in advance.

I live in the south too. Texas to be exact. 60f wont kill the plant but getting to that amd below will stunt growth. It may even be fine in 50f but i suppose its strain dependent. Autos can grow in colder temps better than photos

Thank you. Just hate losing more plants due to things I cant control, like temp. I’m trying to keep the temp at night in the low to mid 70’s. Just dont like using the light as my heat source. To much light based on a few other things I’ve done wrong, overwater, over fertilize, cutting at the wrong time…the list is long. I’ve corrected most of my deficiencies with the assistance of friends like you and actually have 40 plants (10 outside) 30 still inside the house that are great. Just not liking the cool weather and using the light for heat.

All the great suggestions from people here like you, FF Happy Frog purchased 20- 2cf bags, fertilizer monitoring and application, I way over did it. PH/TDS and watering are all critical. Inside, lights are on timers 18-6 and the plants are 10-12" and look perfect. Just need it to warm up and get the 30 out of the house and into the other tents. Thank you for replying Appleyardjr267.

Hi again Apple. just a few of my inside plants

Thats alot of plants! Are they clones or from seeds? What strain?

Seeds 17 ZKittles, the rest are from ILGM but got mixed up by my friend helping me. I figured out the cloning…I’ll clone some of these as they mature in the tents. I have 10 “domes” with lights and heat mats… If I could just get them past this stage without doing something dumb I’ll be ok. Just so you know, I make oil for my wife who has a brain tumor and creams for my animals. I have that part figured out…I always had to buy the meds and do my thing, Now I’m trying my hand at growing and helping people out.

Oh sweet thts awesome. Sorry about your wife. Wish the best for yall and your grow. Us this your first grow?

Sort of. All my prior attempts failed. All due to many of the things I listed above. This week is the 7 th week of the current grow. I’m doing a complete flush just using water at 6.4 ph and TDS of 171. I usually water 5 x’s per week.

I’ll start back on the FF regiment on Sunday after the flush cycle. I’m being very careful as to amount of fertilizer mixed and only using the “big three” twice a week on Sunday and Thursdays.

I use the cal mag every watering at the prescribed dose. Seems to be working for me. Just an FYI my incoming water is also filtered and really good, plus I have R/O water if I so chose to use. Right now I’m just using the filtered tap water. The R/O water is for my saltwater fish tank.

Here’s something to think about. my tank is 180 gal. I use a protein skimmer that removes the solid waste. I have captured this and have mixed it with the tap water and controlled the ph to 6.35-6.40 my friend is using this on his plants and its working great. They are really green. Maybe something to the fish poop mixed properly that help the plants. More to come on this experiment.

Those lights you have are going to fall very short whenever you start to flower. The plants already look a little leggy with minimal vegetative growth which is a sign of inefficient light.

As far as heating the environment during the dark period. You could grab an ink bird temperature sensor and plug a heater into it. You can set the parameters on the ink bird and it will turn the heater on and off for you throughout the night without having to keep the lights on. Just stay away from digital heaters

You are correct. Some are very tall and some are very short. Just to cols to get them in the tent until Friday when we should be on the upswing in temp. My lights in the tens I can raise and lower as needed. The inside lights I cant and the plants are stretching for the lights. Any way to correct this other than moving them outside or adding a heater in the tents? Will the tall ones ever produce anything? Thanks Kid.

The plants are only going to produce good yields if you have proper lighting. What lights do you have in the tents? The bulbs that you took a picture of will not produce anything for you if I’m being completely honest

Got the tent lights thru amazon. bought 12 of them 129.00 each. I’m looking at the instruction sheet and it doesn’t have a manufacture name. The tent lights really worked good for the former grow. I just over watered and fertilized and hurt them. More is not better.

I had to bring the ones in the picture inside and purchase those light to keep them going until it gets warmer outside. The lights in the picture are the same lights I get my seeds to grow with, without any issues. They are expensive led grow bulbs. Below is the light instruction sheet I was referring to I have 12 of these. Thoughts Kid?

We can get away with using a small light to get seedlings up and going but that’s about it. The 12 lights you bought aren’t great, but they’ll grow weed. How big is the tent they are in?

Thank you Kid. FYI below

I have:
3 - 4x4 one light per tent.
1- 4x8 three lights.

This was recommended by the manufacture. They actually work good.

Honestly you could take two of the 4x4s away and put 3 of those amazon lights in one 4x4. You would yield the same or more.

In reality…each one of those lights could probably flower a 2x2 area at best

Kid just a few pictures of my tents. The one with the blankets on it has 10 plants inside now the temp is 68 and the RH is 60%. Trying really hard to save my crop. The medicinal value for my wife’s brain tumor is worth the fight. My rescue dogs fur has come back so amazingly, there truly is something to this. The cream I make for them is outstanding. I’ll send you pictures of one of my dogs when I got her, very bad pictures and what the cream I’ve made has done to make her whole.

You want the temperature under LED lighting to be around 78 to 80 degrees. The humidity at 60% is doable and the plants will be fine.

Trust me…the quality of the product if you had 4 of those lights in a 4x4 instead of one will be night and day difference.

so I had two lights in he 4x4 tents and it was way to much. leaves turned yellow. Went to one light 18-6 and they greened up fast. I live where it gets really warm in the summer, ambient air temp 90 plus for 6-8 months. Controlling the heat and humidity is a challenge.

I now believe where i failed earlier was in the watering and over fertilization. More is not better.

I’m an engineer and trying to use graphs and statistics I have made up to understand the process. I believe everything is process driven, and when the process is out of control, bad things happen. I’m starting to understand the dynamics of these plants and what they need and don’t need. The cold winter here has put a hinderance in my process. I’ll overcome this and keep moving forward thanks to people like you that are there for support…

I have more documentation I can share with you if you like. Developing a plug and play spread sheets is what my ultimate goal is.

One last thing Kid, there are so many different opinions on here. What I need to find is what’s right for me.

What’s right for me may not be right for someone in another country, different climate, lighting, growing season, type of seeds… the list goes on and on. I spend a lot of time watching videos and reading Roberts great information on here.

I believe by developing a excel spread sheet with the parameters for different parts of the country or world will make the process easier to control. I’m new at this growing project. I will not continue to spend are money for crap from local dispensaries to easy my wife’s pain. Nor will i not let my little 4 legged rescue family suffer any longer. I have a plan.

Your thought?

It’s good to see people wanting to learn. My suggestion is to not over complicate it too much…at the end of the, it’s a weed. Proper lighting, proper environment, and proper nutrients will give you grade A product every time.
