Pusher or puller?

I think I’ve read that filter inside the grow area works better but I wondered why? I’ve got a 3x3x6 tent so space is a premium. It would be quite nice to not have the fan and filter, or even just the filter inside the tent to free up headspace for me and the light fixture.

Is there any truth to this? Is a ventilation system more efficient one way or another? Filter inside as first stage of system or filter as last stage on the outside of area being scrubbed?

A filter is the only piece I have in my tent.

Yes I just have the filter in mine, I put the filter inside to control the smell. I assumed that if the filter was at the end there’s too many feet and possible leak points. If the smell just leaked out on the way it would defeat the purpose.

So I’ve put a lot of thought into this.

Only one thing stops me from pushing the air through the filter rather than pulling.

No one makes a prefilter to line the inside of the filter. And with that in mind, you have to consider the surface area. The surface area on the outside of the filter is much more than the interior. So in my mind, you’d get better scrubbing of the air by pulling it in through outside. Plus you have the added protection of the prefilter. A little bit of dust could shorten the lifespan of the filter.

Just my 2 cents.

More surface area on the outside too.

I hadn’t thought of that, that’s a good point. More distance before the filter means more chance of the air escaping before it.

So, I’m curious because I’m getting ready to set mine up…you have the filter inside and the fan is an exhaust fan?

Yes pull from the tent then it pushes out a window.
