Promix w/coco, perlite and nutes?@

Using ff trio and ff original soil now. Thinking of trying promix hp or bx and maybe adding coco and or perlite. Maybe switching to Jack’s nutes. Thinking I may be able to get promix locally year round unlike ff soil in my area for working towards a perpetual grow indoor grow set up. Read a bunch here on promix but most of it is older info. Wondering if anyone here has been using it for a while might have some pros or cons? Thoughts on Jack’s over ff nutes with promix? Thanks @Covertgrower @Hellraiser @dbrn32 et al

Jacks are definitely a better rounded nutrients, I’ve used both. I would go with coco for the easiest.

I would hit up @Myfriendis410 for info on promix. They also have a lot of videos on YouTube that should help.

I use jacks and coco, no perlite though, and I love it!

I use it and prefer it to coco. No reason to blend coco in. The HP has 25% perlite and IMO medium stays light and loose better than coco.

@Myfriendis410 thanks. How is the bx mix. Similar but holds more moisture? Was ready to grab a bag locally but only bx in stock. Wanted the hp lol. My concern is if bx will hold moisture to long and affect feeding schedule. Using cloth pots indoors.

Hope the bx is ok got a bale on the way. Hoping between cloth pots, fans plus I keep 4lbs of damprid in the tent it will be ok.

Just add perlite.

I use the cheap ProMix Moisture Mix in my fabric pots and haven’t had any problems from it. I added a little extra perlite this round to see if I could tell any difference, but I doubt I will.

ETA: My girls are outside in southern heat most of the time, so I’m sure they get thirstier than most inside plants.

I’ve been using ProMix HP. My last grow I used fox farm ocean forest, and was a bit disappointed. I had better yield with ProMix, so I’m back to ProMix. I started using Jacks on this grow. Plants are monsters once again! And as @Myfriendis410 said, just ad perlite to your mix.

@Otis you or anyone here ever use ff trio nutes with promix soil. I have quite a bit left over hate to waste it. Want to try Jack’s to though lol ugh.

I was using the ff trio before I switched to Jacks. It was fine. Just make sure to follow the flush schedule they recommend. I didn’t use the Sledgehammer, or whatever they recommend for flushing. I carried my plants into my bathroom and into the tub. Flushed with my tap water, then ran pH’d water to finish the flush.

Next step putting rooted seeds in 4" nursery pots using promix. Do I lightly spray the soil to start with then put in heated humidity dome and spray inside dome cover? How wet do I want the soil initially? Do I need to spray the soil twice a day for a few days? …6 out of 7 seeds got 1/8" tails after soaking in water/peroxide mix for 30 hours. Last seeds half the size of the others dont know about that one yet. On and seeds down in soil is 1/4 or 1/2 inch better down in soil? Just double checking plus putting this info in journal for others later. Thanks!

I wet my ProMix a day or two before… I water it to run off from my pot. If u look at the ProMix website there are some information videos about using it. In one of the videos, they suggest wetting the soil to activate the lime on it , so the Ph stabilizes … I soak my pots, and the let them sit for a few days before putting my seeds in. By then the soil is just damp. Seeds don’t need a ton of water. Just keep the soil moist… ( don’t worry if your seeds are ready for soil. I’ve used ProMix stray out of the bag, wet it and dropped my tailed seed in it with no issue.

To verify: a bit excess humidity in dome so I cracked the vent a very small amount. Also about how long do I keep the heat mat on? Just till they all sprout or longer? At least to little girls will spread their wings today if not more.

Would regrow or myco benefit using promix? Also when I do repot into cloth pots should I put anything in bottom of pots to aid draining or do the pots work well enough on their own? @Otis @Myfriendis410 *recharge not regrow

Promix HP has mycos already. I usually add to media that doesn’t have any.

@Otis I missed the opportunity to presoak the promix before putting in seeds. On that note moving forward should I presoak the soil in cloth pots before repotting the kids?

I usually do, if I remember. Lol. I fill my 5 gallon pots with the ProMix and then water to run off with tap water. I do this 2 days or so before transplant. I don’t ph this water. My tap water is usually about 7.4. ProMix is peat, which is inherently acidic. The higher ph soaking will bring the ph up to the proper range. Then the lime in ProMix is activated so the ph stabilizes. After that I ph my water and nutrients to 6.2. This seems to be the sweet spot for ProMix. Hope this helps.

Ok hmm thanks. The hmm is my tap water is 7.2 to 7.3 but crazy ppms. I’ve been using a local well water source that’s only 200 ppms but 8 ph. I just adjust the ph down but have to lug in by the gallon lol.
