PPFD - Photone App & Light Question

Hello
I have an HLG350R light in a 2x4 tent. I am measuring my PPFD with the Photone app and I want to verify I’m using the correct setting. I’m using the LED full spectrum option.

Below is the summary of the light and pics of the Photone app options.

Question - Am I correct using LED Full Spectrum option??

HLG 350R commercial indoor horticulture LED grow light is designed to replace a 600 watt HID with just 330 Watts. Each HLG 350R uses 2 of our custom designed full spectrum high efficiency Advanced Diablo™ Quantum Boards® with Samsung Full Spectrum White & Deep Red . With a rectangular footprint this fixture is ideal for flowering in smaller grow spaces or vegging in a commercial grow. This incredibly efficient full spectrum horticulture lamp has an efficiency of 3.11 PPF/W. This lamp has a new improved spectrum with a broader blue wavelength.

Thanks. That is the one I have been using. Thanks for the confirmation.

I had to pay $5 to unlock that feature when I downloaded that app…do you still have to pay to unlock?

Not with android, but I believe you do with Apple. That app is confusing to me, because I also have tent buddy, and the readings aren’t very close each other. Tent Buddy actually seems to be closer to me.

It’s not surprising. Cell phone cameras are optimized for the visible spectrum of light and are therefore not capable of giving a true PPFD reading. Plants see a spectrum of light that is wider than the visible spectrum and thus you might get imprecise readings.

Yeah, I think a person has to learn their light, and use some common sense practices for the most part. I’ve got a 350r, one plant I just flipped, and I have it set on the notch, 292w.

The spectrum of every light is a bit different depending on the components used to build the light. HLG does have a mapping tool that converts LUX to PPFD for their products.

I have the tent buddy app, also. I use both to see the dif. But kinda like tent buddy tells u on one screen both dli and ppfd. Don’t forget to set the right hours, though.

thanks for the info growmies…I am happy with the Photone app but figured if others liked the Tent Buddy I would take a look at it…I have to admit since I started using the Photone app my girls are healthier and the end product is better…I was pushing tooooo hard with the old ‘hold your hand there technique’ and I find I am not adjusting the light fixture height as much and started using the dimmer which I never had a reason to use before because I just ran at max all the time…old dogs can learn new tricks

My android app will not correctly measure the output of the HLG350R, but at 25 inches on position #4 is about 200watts and 50Klux. Calculators on HLG site show max lighting, about position 5.
Position 7 is about 330 watts and is at maximum measurable output.
I love the lamp and the reduced electrical usage. V1200 maxes at 550Watts. 2x350’s would use less electricity and fill the 4x4x6.5
The 350R has the same output at that level as the Vipar Spectra V1200, but has smaller footprint and generates significantly less heat than the Vipar.

@DEEPDIVERDAVE, which light meter did you get? Are you happy with it?

I don’t think so, I think it’s just called tent buddy.

Absolutely love my light meter Ut383-BT.
Found using LUX meter substantiates the light I have are working, just not the best like the HLG-350R.
Major advantage, all tent mapped, all lights understood, better.
Even learned meter too close to light will decrease readings (less light spread).
Without the meter, my lights remain in “guess they are working” mode.
HLG350R at 25inches is 50Klux on position #4 (200Watts).
