PPFD & DLI meter system

Has anyone use the app on your phone? If so how accurate are they? Or are they something to concern yourself with?

Welcome to the neighborhood. I have it on my android. I don’t know how accurate it is, no way else to check. But, at least now I know where my lights should be ish. Takes the guess work out

Photone app most accurate when compared to Apogee

I have Photone on my iPhone 13 Pro Max and it’s useless. I’ve calibrated it with my new Apogee MQ-610 and then it’s back out the next day. About done with it. And to think I bought the Pro version.

oh yeah welcome Dug

Thanks to you all that responded. On small scale as mine. Like the old saying, keep things simple stupid.

The best thing to do is hopefully have a light with good PPFD maps and use them as a gauge.

I have a Samson Smarter than me phone. Recently I loaded a LUX and PPFD-M. apps.
Seeing this thread, I went back to the apps and was surprised that they had tutorials.
Pictures help. DLI, PAR, PPFD Mapping…so many new factors for mastery. Old dog not liking learning new phone

Interesting. Haven’t tested it with the 13 but between the 12 down to the 8 it’s pretty accurate. I haven’t had to check recently because I know what my lights output are what distances. Maybe recent updates screwed something up. Wouldn’t be surprised. Especially after korona was bought out and then they started charging for everything.

I would be interested in your findings Bobby… Could you add it to say @Nicky topic or maybe create a new one. My old Iphone 6 seems to be pretty correct here.

Have no way of testing. The testing against an apogee and an iPhone 7-12 were very similar. Closer readings as you went up the chain. Don’t have a 13 so can’t test that at the moment.

I downloaded photone on 3 devices a galaxt tab5se, a motorola moto g stylus and a galaxy s21. The tablet and moto g are same the s21 reads different. Mob rules i use the 2 that are the same.

That popped into my head and then had to listen to the album

As @Bobbydigital mentioned we have tested photone it with multe devices both Apple and Samsung.

I have used the multiple apps and the photone has been the most accurate at the time.

Granted the variables are ever changing, new phones with different camera types, new software versions on phones, new apps, new app updates.

It should be on the apps to test phones and update their software accordingly with new phones and new software updates but it’s a huge task.

I can confidently say that the slightly older Samsung’s with photone work amazingly. They don’t have multiple cameras and they don’t require a diffuser, they are accurate.

However knowing how to do the LUX to PPFD to DLI conversion using online calculators will help as it is another tool to validate.

Remembering that this is a tool to get a good Geuss, each genetic and environment will also varry results and it’s important to read your plants and your environment.
