So I planted my seeds (AK47 fems from ILGM) 4 days ago. My setup is starting the seeds in 5 gal grow bags, and never transplanting them. However, I planted them in a Miracle Grow Potting soil that “feeds for up to 6 months”. I read in an earlier post today that you should not use these types of soil, but I have already made the mistake.
2 of my 3 seeds have popped through, with one being about an inch and a half tall and the other just have popped through, but not yet straightened. The third seed has yet to pop through.
I am wondering if I need to try and change out my soil entirely before things progress too far and it becomes a bigger problem.
If you don’t want to change the whole bag soil, you might want to get med size peat pots ( they self compost in a while ) put the seedlings in them in seedling soil and place it back in the bag…
This way they will be n seedlings soil until theirs roots break through the pot and be ready for hotter soil…
A: Replace all soil with seed starter
B: Peat pots with seed starter set in the bag of other soil
C: Bottom half other soil Top half Seed Starter
Sorry if I am being overly difficult. First time trying this and want to get it right. I have enough of the other soil, seed starter, and peat pots to do any of the options. I am wanting to make the move tonight and not give it another night in the wrong setup.
You’re not overly difficult. All good questions. Everyone has their way so you might get different ideas from different people.
Are they auto’s? I think I just saw fem. If auto’s I think I’d personally layer. If not Auto’s, I’d put in a smaller pot with starter soil for a couple weeks then put in the bigger pot.
They are not Autos. Would you recommend setting a peat pot inside the other soil so I do not have to transplant or truly a separate pot and transplant in a few weeks?
I’m not saying it would be bad but I would just get some 6" pots and let the plant mature a little, then it can handle a more fortified soil. Also easier to not overwater in a smaller pot.
Thanks for all the help and info. I have transplanted into 6in pots in seed starter soil now. No other nutrients added. Based upon other posts I have seen, Leave it be until 5-7 sets of leafs are there.
Good news is, the one that had not sprouted yet had germed and was getting ready to pop through. Here’s to hoping I still have 3 ladies going in 4-6 weeks.
Back again. I just got my Fox Farm’s Big Bloom, Tiger Bloom, and Grow Big nutrients in. My question was when should I start watering my plants (seedlings?) with any of them. The Soil Medium feeding chart says to use 6 teaspoons per gallon of water twice a week on seedlings and cuttings.
Does that mean I should start giving mine Big Bloom twice a week starting now or wait until the seedling has a few more leaves. I would post a picture, but it would not show much. 3 Plants, one 2 inches out of the soil, one 1 inch out of the soil, and the other just starting to poke through. I wanted to check with you guys before I make another mistake like I did with the soil.
Mine are 3 weeks old ,I just gave them little of my special rabbit compost tea yesterday for the first time…
I would wait at least for 3 sets of leaves before any chemicals adding…Just my two cents
The ones that state bloom I wouldn’t advise using until flower or your gonna have serious problems and the grow big Atleast when she starts aggressive vegetative growth.
Also the only time you wanna feed that young is a 1-1-1 ratio otherwise your likely to have problems down the road once they kill off embryonic leaves the plant is able to uptake nutrients at a higher level (not much higher).
The embryonic leaves usually die around the 2-3 week of growth when they have 7 or more leaf nodes that have developed.
