Alright here we go. Starting my grow this weekend. Hoping to get a few final pointers! I’ve got the dots and recharge in the mail. I’m about to go to the nursery and get the coco, calmag, and other little odds and ends. Don’t have pics yet as I have popped anything. I’m trying to figure out just how to mix and prep my coco. I’m going to be using grow dots so I don’t want to mix them in right away. So what should I do for a mix for seedlings using only coco and calmag. Idk how to hydrate coco or anything. Can I hydrate coco and let it sit until it’s ready or should I just mix a little now for my small pots then remix when it’s time to repot. And how exactly do you know you get to 70/30? Thanks I’m advance. Pics soon to come! @Graysin @Fieldofdreams @SynysterChris @GreenJewels @AfgVet
If you are able to get Canna Coco brand get it. You don’t have to rinse or buffer it. There are one or two other brands but I can’t think of them at the moment. @Mark0427 will know one of them I think.
To hydrate your coco, since you’re using grow dots, you’ll pour water, ph-ed between 5.8 and 6.2, over the coco block and let it sit for about an hour maybe. Just make sure it’s all hydrated. The canna coco comes in bags that you just add the water to.
I will hydrate just what I need at the time. It will dry out if you don’t use it and coco is a pain once it dries.
Coco and grow dots?
Pulling up a seat
Canna coco and gorilla boost pre buffered or super buffered worked super well.
I will be watching. A fellow Washington grower.
I’m pulling up a seat and twisting one, this should be good
My thought there also.
I do still hydrate my compressed coco with CalMag in the water just to ensure it’s buffered properly, even the stuff that’s pre-buffered. Any CalMag works, it’s just about providing enough calcium.
I will say steer clear of the Mother Earth brand of coco - the prehydrated stuff had bad drainage and the compressed stuff didnt rehydrate worth a f**k. It was awful to work with and I keep an extra brick of Canna around now for emergencies (although FloraFlex is my preferred coco brand these days).
Mix what you need for now, then when you are ready to uppot and mix in the Dots, follow the same hydrating process and add the dots after fully hydrated.
You all are awesome! Unfortunately, the only local nursery we had didn’t have ANYTHING I needed. So I have to wait even longer since Amazon doesn’t carry floraflex coco, so I have to wait for canna coco to get here on the 24th. So yet again I’m on pause
Growgeneration has canacoco for 23$ 50lb bag right now. They ship from their website and have stores all over Washington. I go to the mount lake terrace store a lot just south of lynwood. It may be worth calling them tomorrow to see if they could get it to you faster than the 25th. Here is a link but it will probably get blocked not being Amazon. Just search growgeneration and click on their website.
Well the coco bricks can be here by Monday I just have to buy them individually. If I go with the 2 pack, it take a week longer.
Unfortunately I’m out on the peninsula so a trip to Lynwood is a full day trip lol @noddykitty1
They ship from their website just like Amazon. But it sounds like you found a faster solution.
PNW. Me to. Oregon?
Nope just about as far north in the us you can go lol
Point Roberts? Or Birch Bay? Not too far from me, hour and a half or so.
Good morning everybody! First real update. As of 10:00 last night, I dropped purple afghani, gdp, mango, and purple punch. Germination underway!!! Hope y’all have a fantastic Friday!!!
Checked my seeds tonight. GDP cracked and has a itty bitty tap showing. Purple afghani cracked and has a decent showing tap. Mango and purple punch nothings happened. Transferred them to paper towels in ziploc backs and put in dark warm place. We’ll see what happens. @Graysin @Fieldofdreams @beardless @SynysterChris @noddykitty1 @GreenJewels
And so it begins! Nice!
Did you get your coco situation figured out? That’s weird that the 2pack would take longer to ship, it’s not like they’re big or anything. I believe when I was looking for it I kept scrolling on Amazon and found bigger packs,
Was like 30$ for one, but under 20$ each if I bought 4.
And I knew I’d need it eventually ha. Each individual brick is 20liters so about 5 gallons, slightly less. If adding perlite def 5 gal per brick.
(2bricks per bag)
Important to do the math haha the first time I ordered it I messed up and was short
