Has anybody heard of putting plants in the dark for a few days before harvest. I heard it helps to get rid of the harshness
A lot of people will go dark for 2 or 3 days. The idea being that it will stress the plant and it will produce more trichomes to help protect itself. I will usually go dark for a day or two, but I’m not to sure it does much.
Lots of ways to kill a plant in a couple of days, but no real way to noticeably increase it in that same time frame……
Tried it. No noticable difference. Stopped doing it.
I was one to take the dark route but lately I have abandoned a lot of the “tweaks” like dark period, water only or flush. I find that if you give them the best, most natural growing environment you can and a clean, well timed harvest they will produce very well. A lot of the “extra” measures only affect the outcome or quality by small degrees and are not worth my efforts personally.
Ive tried it and i believe my buds were stickier and abit more full but i guess its personal preference for different growers its not goin to hurt to try for ur self
The only reason my plants get a dark period is because the dry tent isn’t ready. Makes no difference if I chop them at lights on or after 3 days of dark.
There’s is no proven science behind it its a bro science as we call it
Thanks to all. Sounds like 50/50 so I’ll give it a couple days
I did a test and did 7 days in dark , they developed at half speed , so basically 2 days in dark you get 1 days of growth without light destroying thc and terps not a huge difference but I’m in no rush so I do it ( I don’t recommend more then 4 days or it could stress enough to seed itself)
Seeds take way longer then that to grow
True and it’d only really fertilize foxtails since normal buds will be done developing but I’d be more afraid of a pollen sac forming from the stress and pollen getting onto my next grow
I’ve done 36 hr - 48 hr blackout right before the chop a couple of times. I have no scientific proof that it improves trichomes but my eyes think that they sure do see a difference. I have to wonder if my perceived difference is due to the fact that I haven’t looked at them for a day and a half or two days?
Try it and see what you think!
i do a 36hr…the way i understand it…there is no potency increase, but the plant will " repair " the trichs before the next light/sun cycle, because the trichs are the plants natural " sunscreen "
i do believe the harshness issue pertains to the following…during the day/light cycle, the plant is filled with moisture and nutes…at night the produced starches and sugars, are stored in the roots…so you cut the plant at " night " to prevent these nutes and moisture being present… this makes for a more stable/uniform dry and eventually… cure
I see it as a huge waste of time as none of us dry in a room lit up. Its always in the dark. But if a person wants to waste that time, go for it. Not my time nor grow.
How about stressing the plant on purpose? I’ve heard of people cutting the stock with a knife to produce more THC 12 hours before harvest. I’ve never tried it always afraid it would be really harsh. Has anyone had the marbles to do it?
If so what happened? Lol
I’ve done it. Didn’t make any difference. Split the stalk a week or two before harvesting.
So how bout super cropping in the last 2 weeks? Does this work for increased potency?
I did that to a single branch/bud. It did not try to recover and just started wilting/dying.
