First time grower here! I didn’t expect my photos to grow so tall!! They still have a couple weeks left until harvest!! Will they continue to grow in height until then?? Im running out of fence… My neighbor loves my Christmas trees!! Lol ssshhh!!
If they only have a couple of weeks left until harvest then you should not experience any further vertical growth and/or bushiness. They look great! Keep up the good work.
Although personally I would have thinned them out. Appears as though they’ve never been thinned/manicured/pruned. You’re gonna have a lot of larf. But larf makes great edibles. Larf also makes for terrible, horrible trimming, unless you’re trimming mechanically.
Okay thats perfect!! Thank you!! I didn’t expect any of them to do this well so I was scrambling at first… Appreciate your advice!
I learned about topping and fimming lst…AFTERWARDS go figure! I have 2 that i got to in time! I’ll be back with more questions when its time to trim… and edibles are a plan
You’re welcome. Hope you’re prepared to have a lot of product on your hands. You should have pounds by the time it’s all said & done. Personally, I would start trimming off a lot of those big fan leaves now. With only a small window of grow season left before harvest, flowers will be getting fat and resinous. This is when mold can set in. The more ventilation and air flow you have, the less chances you’ll develop mold. Also, it’ll save you more trimming time in the end, after it’s been hung to dry for a week or so.
They should be building buds now and not stretching anymore. Might not be a bad idea to trim some of the inner leaves. Just to make sure plant is getting good air flow.
Gonna have you a monster harvest soon!
Im ready!! Got a space prepped temp and humidity wise! I removed the leaves off my autos but wasn’t sure about the big ones! Ill definitely start on those as well!!
Many variables go into a trainning regimen. Genetics is a big one. A durban poison landrace will almost certainly benefit from a topping or two, or fimming, as will something with heavy sativa lineage like super lemon haze, or gold leaf. Indica landrace strains really don’t require a topping or fimming, in my opinion, but they’ll definition benefit from trellising in a screen of green operation.
If I’m doing something heavy sativa outdoors in a decent season (not too far north or south of the tropic lines), then I’ll top multiple times, or fim at least once. Indica heavy strains I usually do not. But one thing I do outside to all strains I grow and that’s lollipop. Because I absolutely abhor manually trimming my plants, and I’ve yet to try mechanical trimming.
That last photo looks much better, in my opinion, especially near the soil surface, where moisture has a tendency to accumulate and hold.
THEY LOOK AMAZING!! I haven’t learned that technique yet but im not scared to try anymore since i joined the forum… I had to Lol at your last sentence because i understand that all too well… You can tell just by looking at the process… NOPE…and thats so mee… I will learn the hard way THIS time still happy to grow !!
Another example of how I like the lollipop to look when I’m outside. I live in the “snow belt” (east of Cleveland and south of Buffalo) and we tend to have damp summers, accompanied by even wetter autumns, which all run into a short harvest window. The less moisture I allow into the canopy and undergrowth, the better chances I’ll avoid mold growth.
Here are another few examples of some LSTing and lollipoping. These are full sun outdoor photos in 100 gallon fabric low profiles pots.
I was thought many years ago that plants in the wild (trees) to be exact don’t lie to be pruned over 1/3 of its living vegetation. Back in my forest management days. The leaves act as little solar panels to the plant providing the energy exchange that is required for proper growth.
If you stop to many lower branches/vegetation off of a tree (the bottom 2/3) the tree can’t physically produce enough energy to reach its full potential. Same with a cannabis plant! In the wild this would produce enough s error for pests to attack and overtime weeken the plant and possibly infect and kill it.
It’s kinda a fine line with cannabis. You want to thin and trim it up for proper airflow and to help prevent but infestations but you also want to leave a good amount of vegetation on so the plant can thrive.
It’s definitely a hands on learning experience
Happy farming…
Absolutely breathtaking!
All i can say is WOW!! Im excited to learn!! Ive been researching and am amazed at what you can do… My next grow I will try and keep you posted. Thank you so much!!
@TEISEAN626 Nice! A grower (like me) who grows autos and Photos outdoors!! Currently and in the past years Ive grown only one Photo a year along with several strains of Autos…I’m going to do a 60/40 split next season…But I think your plants look great!! I had the same problem two seasons ago with my Romulan Photo it was stretching over my fence so the neighbors could see…Its not a biggie cause Im in a legal state but I still want to be covert so…Next season I’m going to do some fimmin… topping… lollipoping whatever I can…I too love to leave them grow like Christmas trees…That big ass main cola is so special!!..But Im gonna change…
@wagner Killer plants…Nice lollipoping! Oh I agree with you on the trimming aspect…Whe I first started growing the first years trimming was “FUN” and novelty…year after year I started to kinda dread so so much of it…and Im a manicured bud guy I like them too look perfect so I go overboard But I think I wanna try that next seson!
@HippieRunner1 Not much can be said !! Except WOW… Big trees killer shape! I cant wait to see the buds they’ll produce…Definitely keep us posted!!
The pics I posted are from last summer. Now that new york state is legal beagle, I moved back indoors. I did 2 pink runtz (sorry, ilgm, but I had to go off-site for that strain, ahem…) next to the house in my veggie garden.
Forget the laws you need worry about the neighborhood kids walking down the street lol
I’m not in a legal state so I scrog with trellis netting on my house plants so they don’t go over the fence but in the fields I use hog panels and t post for cage support
I have 1 last question about the caged plants on the plastic drums
Is that for animal protection
