I hope u and ur wife enjoy this as much as me and my wife do. I love it more than her but together we both do a good job of teamwork. I do 12 plants at a time some a bit more but between the 2 its a blast. Cant wait to see what u and the wife bring out of these plants.
Are you attempting to pH distilled water? I ask because distilled water with nothing added cannot physically hold a pH. It would automatically take on the pH of the soil. Any pH adjustments would go to the root zone directly
I appreciate it! You read how much attention they need and the details to look at, and I think it gets me a little anxious. Her older, outside sister being stunted to dwarf size from first week issues didn’t help either
No, tap. It comes out at 7.9-8.0. (WTF am I cooking with and drinking??) I added about 1 ½ tbsp of lemon juice and it has set at 6.3 for the last couple of hours.
Okay. I just skimmed quickly after reading ticket.
I love that. This all started as a financial thing. Not to bring in, to stop throwing out. With her work schedule, a lot of it is destress for her and therapeutic. She has one outdoor next to my outdoor. We only have the 3 between us currently, all first grows, but I would love to get to a point that I have multiple sites and operations. I am working towards opening a restaurant, and eventually 1 or 2 more, with 1 having a cannabis infused menu, of solely my own product. Our state is behind others, but the way its been going the last couple of years, it can totally happen within the next 5-7 years.
I started with distilled and read it isn’t so great, so I started checking my tap water. Got the good advice to spend a little change on a good meter. From what I’ve read, the ph will go back up over time with the lemon juice, so I’m gonna just go get some ph up and down at the hardware store here shortly.
Very nice on the cannabis infused cuisine Brother! Wish you and the wife much success. So from what I’m gathering is you’re starting these inside then taking them outside? Regardless, the FFOF has enough nutes to last you through week 5-6 or so. Do you have a TDS pen? This will read the PPMs (parts per million) of total dissolved solids in your medium, nutrient mix or water. This will let you know the strength of the nutrients when you mix to follow a feeding schedule. Do you know what your tap water is in PPMs? I use Jacks 321 nutrient line and tap water. My tap has a PH of 7.1-7.2 with PPMs at around 50. I’m growing in FF Happy Frog and coco loco and will start a low regiment of nutrients around week 4-5 with some silica and recharge as supplemental nutes, but not every feeding just the Jacks 321. The silica will help them grow a strong root and stem structure and the the recharge is a beneficial bacteria that breaks down the organic matter in the soil and make it available to the plants. Your current medium has that except the silica, but you should be looking to add around week 5. Sorry for the info overload, I was dumb to all this but through this community and the great peeps on here, have learned a lot. Earth worm castings are a great supplement to add to the top of your pot as well, you can make a nice tea brew with the castings and molasses. My personal preference
This one has been strictly inside. My wife and I each have an outside. That one I had to bring in for a few days because her first week was horrible outside, but I got her sturdied up, she’s just little bitty still. About 3" tall at 23 days from sprout.
And no apologies needed! The info you gave was totally absorbable. I’m kind of doing the same thing having to ask for the info and then scavenge around the forum for some.
I don’t have a PPM meter, do you have a preference or recommendation? I have 2 days left of Prime trial so get it while I can lol. I have the FFtrio for nutes, but haven’t given her anything but water. If the ph holds on the tap water with the lemon juice, I will give it to her next watering. The scavenging info I’ve gathered from the lemon juice is that over time the ph can go back up, so I will check it every morning until then.
Edit: I will give her the water with lemon juice next watering, not the nutes. Am not adding nutes until preflower.
Right on, I have a Blue Lab Pen and an Apera PH pen and love them both. I went through several cheapies and could have saved myself wasted money and heartache buying those first. I would have 3 cheapies showing 3 different readings at the same time.
I had that shaker with the tablets you dump in them and that thing turned darker than the lowest indicator for acidic. Got the Apera Ph yesterday with a loooooot better accuracy. So glad I didn’t treat water or soil based on it.
Awesome, you won’t regret that purchase!
Looking at Blue Lab Pens now. Thanks for the info!
Another purchase worth it, a little more costly like the Apera but accurate.
A little more costly THAN the Apera, too. I guess I’ll pay for it now, so my girl doesn’t later. Gotta get the ph meter storage solution anyway. I knew I should have gotten the big kit.
I use regular tap on my Apera pen for storage. No negative effects and think that’s what they recommend. I do have the calibration solution for both of my pens and will calibrate about every week or so. Important that you keep them both clean before storing, don’t want any salts drying on the probes
Welcome to the group. Wife and I started with 1 plant in a 28” x 28” x 63” tent with coco.
Now… it’s all about hydro….
Once you grow hydro, you’ll never grow back… … get it? lol
So anyways, you’ve got some great support here already! Wishing you the best of luck!
We have a semi, almost, sort of, not quite what you would call competition going on. The hydro scares me. Growing it, not consuming. But as long as her and I can open a couple jars in a few months, we both win!
A lot of folks are intimidated by hydro. Don’t know of too many people that want to wake up to a house full of water.
The initial setup can be challenging if you don’t have any kind of mechanical skills. Other than the setup, it’s super easy. And so far they grow big. You can grow big plant through various ways. Not just hydro. Scrogging is one potential way to increase yields. You’ll do fine the way you are.
I’ve got autos and read there isn’t a whole to be done with them because of recovery times and their flower cycles. I am interested in increasing yield and potency, though, without a doubt. I have an unused bedroom this girl is in. If I have marginal success with this girl and her sisters outside, then at the beginning of next year, I’m setting the room up for a real grow. I’m going to try 10 girls. 2 strains, 3 autos of each (6), and 2 fems of each (4). This will hopefully set the pace, so that in 5 or so years, laws will have caught up and I can pursue business dreams.
