Just to update I ended up ordering a Apera PH20 to replace my cheap one.

My city water is about 350ppm and I run it through a britta filter to drink it

I don’t drink water: fish $hit in it! Hahaha!
It’s not very good water but that’s SoCal for you. It’s treated and is fine for most uses but we filter our drinking water.
