I started out on another forum (or 3), but everyone was so quick to attack noobs for asking basic questions, or theyā€™d get all bent out of shape if I asked the reasons behind certain things, as if I was somehow questioning their skills. Itā€™s one thing to be told how to do it, and a completely different thing to understand why youā€™re doing it that way.

This place keeps egos in check. Nobody needs that kind of negativity while trying to grow weed.

Glad you found us!

Forums like that give us potheads a bad name. Youā€™d think theyā€™d be more relaxed with all that weed.

Exactly. It was so disheartening to see those attitudes. Smoke a bowl & chill, buddy. How hard is that?

This forum is fun. I would hangout with the members in real life!

You hit the nail on the head regarding my feelings since I am as green of a noob as they come. On distilling forums, I have been told to go and research my own answers, then come back some other time. Boy oh boy, thatā€™s real encouragementā€¦and they defend their attitude since distilling is a ā€œdiscreteā€ hobby.

Well, heck, ILGM isnā€™t exactly the Vatican, but everyone embraces noobs to feel welcomed and encouraged. Immediately, many of the old hats in this hobby came along to offer help and encouragement. Its like yā€™all actually WANT me to succeed and donā€™t let your egos get in the way of my basic questions.

Iā€™m glad I found you too! Really glad.

Honestly, I think we all just like looking at good bud porn, so it behooves us all to make sure weā€™re growing the best bud we can, noob to guru.

Soā€¦are you gonna start a grow journal? No peer pressure or anything.

Personally speaking, I just want to help people grow good weed. A: for the bud porn, and b: it helps spread the word about how great weed is and weā€™re gonna grow it despite the laws.

That, too. :grinning: Sheesh, raustin, poking holes in all my silliness, today, arenā€™t you. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye::joy:

Trust me, there are other forums like the distilling forum you speak of. Not here, Iā€™m a first time grower and from day one it was always encouragement and help.

I couldnā€™t agree more. The information I found here saved me from making a lot of mistakes I made in brewing. In brewing I started with a cheap little setup my wife bought me (she regretted that later lol) from there I expanded to a bigger setup for extract brewing finally having all the right stuff. Then from there finally a full fledged all grain setup. But in the process I accumulated a lot of parts that are no longer needed. Thanks to here I have what I need and if in the future I want to get some of the flashy additions I can. But I know I have what I need to get the job done with what I have.

@raustin had mentioned a grow journal to me back when I joined ILGM and she offered to mentor me. Its only fair I put back more than I take, and maybe a noob behind me will see my efforts (journal) and feel encouraged. I may not be a seasoned grower at this juncture, but I have a very positive attitude.

I still consider myself a noob, though Iā€™m on my 7th grow. I still have a lot to learn. With each grow, Iā€™m delving into deeper detail of each aspect. I figure in 4 or 5 more grows, I should be able to say, with confidence: I know things.

Youā€™re a very good grower, and not a noob, @blackthumbbetty.

@raustin is a great teacher of this art and she knows a lot about the craft. She is a great person to have in your corner. Sheā€™s saved my ass more than once.

I second what @raustin said. You donā€™t give yourself enough credit. Your plants speak for your skills!

Thereā€™s a lot to be learned by your words in that good advice and guidance from the beginning can help you skip lots of expenses, failures and unnecessary purchases. By building my system to mirror @raustin, she can guide me skillfully since her system will function for the most part like mine will. Iā€™m going into my setup phase with advice from a seasoned veteran who has seen what worksā€¦and what doesnā€™t.
