I read somewhere that people use oven cooking bags for curing their buds, instead of glass jars… Anyone have any experience with, or heard about someone doing this? Does it work good?
nope, sounds like a very bad idea as it will make the pot sweat and probably go mouldy and you will cry .
read the GUIDES above.
Once your plant material is dry I don’t see any reason why oven bags wouldn’t work. I use mason jars but clear plastic totes with a good seal will work; one member here grows outdoors and needs to jar in 5 gallon buckets (Homers); I regularly bag seal (don’t vacuum seal!) with no issues.
I would not use them for curing… but I do use them for storage…
I’ve used them for long term storage. Up to a year for summer harvests. Also store in freezer with no ill effects. Works well when trying to have outdoor summer smoke in April or May of following year.
Blockquote Did not work properly… Sorry… Please see below…
Thanks for all the replies @Myfriendis410, @Oldguy, @peachfuzz, @James68… everyone!!! Maybe I will just use glass containers for curing…
So, does anyone know if glass peanut butter containers and other such glass containers that have been cleaned well, are just as good as glass mason type jars for curing? I wonder if they are just as air tight as mason jars made of glass? Seems like they would be, as the mason jars will not be pressurized when used for curing…?
And I also wonder if one would need to use a bigger Boveda thing, if one uses a bigger container, but does not have very much buds in there, so there might be much more air in the container, than buds…? Is the size of the Boveda thingy determined by the amount of pot in container, or the size of the container? @basementstealth Any suggestions?. I need to start curing in a day or 2 at the most… Sure could use the advice!!! maybe i did it wrong, and no one can see this or something… lol @raustin can u help me out on these questions?
why do you advise against vacuum sealing ?
If you intend to smoke it, vacuum sealing compresses the flower down into a solid mass that’s almost impossible to deal with. If you are only doing edibles then it works great.
ok, thanks for the input, it does come out of the vacuum bag like grass/hash but I grind it up and vape it and get trashed as shit with 6 month old vacuumed pot…next time I will put the pot in a solid breathable container and vacuum seal the container in a plastic seal bag, hopefully to avoid the crush…
Vaccum sealing a jar could be ok?
Thanks for the tag. I’m still figuring out how I want to cure. Let’s call in reinforcements. I usually look to @raustin first
@basementstealth, Thanks for the idea… I will put her in there on that one too… She will know the answers… Was tryin to give her a break on all my dumb beginner questions all the time… lol
Ok let’s do it. Let’s find the right answers for you. What do you need to know first?
@heybudletsparty Hey welcome to the forum. It’s a good question. Is this ur first harvest?
I think if you want to store your weed in a large tear resistant bag that would be fine. I would want a plan for opening and closing a bag that size. If you don’t close it right the weed can get damaged. So u have a reliable way to close ur bag now you have to put this enormous smelly bag somewhere. And it seems easy until your grandmother opens your socks drawer and asks for a blunt! Lol
Just get some kind of air tight glass jars very clean preferrably new. Know the glass’s history. If it is a three.foot tall jar u found filled with green ooze then maybe don’t use it right??! Lol again.
Then get boveda packs 58% seems good for smoking. 4 grams per quart jar is plenty. A quart will take an ounce or zip
Once u have ur buds dried so stems snap and trimmed and weighed and put away in their forever homes with their boveda packs u will probably have to burp the jars for at least 3 days. Just open the jars and let them breath.
Ur funny dude
Sorry, I am, making a very late dinner… And my computer is in another room way far from the kitchen… Yea first grow in many years… Never used to cure my buds, back then…
Thanks @basementstealth! Not gonna use bags. Gonna use some kind of glass jars.
Sorry, I fell asleep early last night, guess I got too stoned.
So, yes, you can use any kind of glass jar as long as it’s clean. The plastic lids are fine, though they might need some extra cleaning to get any smell out of them. They are just as air tight as Mason jars, so no problem.
I’m not sure about the size of the Boveda pack, but I would assume a slightly larger pack would work on a slightly larger jar even if it only has a little weed in it.
it would have to be strong glass as this macihine flattens an empty soda can in a seal bag
Glass jars are significantly stronger than an empty aluminum soda can. I think
