There’s a maze of information out there and it would be much appreciated if I get some feedback if I’m on the right track before I start my next grow…
I’m trying to keep it organic and as simple as possible.
Plan is:
LST’d ILGM GSC Autos in a 5 x 5 w/ 6" air mover
Humidifier/dehumidifier w/ humidostats & basic temp reg.
HLG 350R x 2
Fox Farm Ocean Forest with some added perlite
Worm Castings & Down to Earth 4-4-4 & 4-8-4 dry amendments
Recharge & Mammoth P
Tap water pH’d to within soil range and set out for a day to de-chlorinate
Make sure the soil’s pH is where it should be.
Germ using paper towel method.
5Gal fabric pots, solo cups worth of COM starter in FFOF where I’ll plant the sprouts.
Recharge/unsulphered molasses added to water once a week during veg.
Mammoth P/unsulphered molasses added to water once a week during flower.
Amend on week 4 with 1C worm castings, 3tbspns 4-4-4, 3 tbspns 4-8-4
Amend on week 8 with 1C worm castings, 3tbspns 4-4-4, 5 tbspns 4-8-4
I dont know alot about using addtl worm castings but to me that seems alot of addtl nitrogen (FFOF already heavy nitrogen) you may wish to dble check on the amounts you intend to use.
Check your tap water first. Most tap water has chloromine now, as it’s way more stable and can keep water safe for consumption over much longer pipe distances. Chloromine is chlorine wrapped in ammonia and won’t air off and will damage your plants. You can get a water report for you local tap water through your local government website.
I started with tap water that I aired off and lost 8 plants before discovering my water has chloromine in it. So now I buy distilled water at food lion
I started having issues with my water because there is a ton of construction in my neighborhood right now. I use Jack’s 321 and can mix 5gal and my pH would go to 6.43 and drift a little. Well when the water was screwy, my pH only went to 6.8 and by day 2 would be super cloudy and pH up well over 7. Bought a RV hose filter for a few bucks on Amazon, ran the water for like a half hour. Normally, ppm’s in my water are close in the 400 range, but the filter knocks them down to about 160. I’m actually cooking Earth Dust right now in a 5gal bag of FFOF that has been sitting on my porch for weeks. Waters good now, and I never pH. I don’t even get my meter out, I know where Jack’s will fall.
Buuuuut Roots Organic soils are totally organic. They can hold anywhere from 2-8wks of nutrients out of the bag. I’m getting off the FF soils and using RO707.
I use happy frog mixed with perlite and fox farm fruit and flower 4-9-3 per the instructions on the package. Then top dress with the fruit and flower after about 6 weeks. Then once a month after that if necessary, and that’s it. I also mix some worm castings in when I’m filling my pots. I also use a little bio thrive bloom during flowering.
I’ve decided to go with Roots Organic 707 mix.
Unsure if proposed top dressing or anything else needs to be different with this change yet…time for more reading.
Thankfully the local water supply doesn’t have chloramines.
Read that pH’ing your water for organic grows may not be necessary if it doesn’t sway too far from what the soil pH should be…thoughts?
Decided to go with Earth Dust as well after comparing some products.
@Borderryan22 - Did they give you Earth Dust application rate recommendations for 707?
Specifically for the initial Base mix - their educational video series uses an inert medium.
Looks like you have a good game plan i haven’t tried a5n FF yet as i prefer purplecow indicanja soil its living and im lazy. So just water cal mag and the occasional feed
I actually haven’t used it in the 707 yet. I didn’t have enough for a 5 gallon fabric bag. I put 20 tablespoons of base in 5 gallons of FF Ocean Forest so I’ll know in a little over a week if that burns it up or not. I had a plant growing on my porch, in FFOF, that my cat killed when it was like a month old. So there was a vacant pot on my porch for a month that I mixed ED Base in.
The folks at TGSC are pretty good people so I would use the 707, if you have it or have it on the way. I just didn’t have any when I was ready to start cooking lol.
