NYC Tap water safe?

I hadnt heard that. Interesting

Hey @Shatter, I live in the Catskills, want some of my air, lol.

Since we’re talking about water here, I have a question. I’ve been using an RO Buddie for a few weeks now after a suggestion from @Bulldognuts. It’s been the easiest few weeks since I started growing. With the DI filter inline the PPM’s read zero, when I bypass it the reading is about 15. So this is perfect when I’m feeding the plants, but my question is about when I want to give them a plain watering. Would I be better off mixing in some tap water, which comes out at about 285 now, or some cal/mag? I need the PPM’s to be just high enough to get a pH reading, plus I’ve been told RO water will actually look to take in minerals. It doesn’t like to be naked, so it can steal nutrients from your plant if you feed zero PPM’s.

In my last indoor grow i used cook county/ Chicago tap water with 500mg vitamin c. Let sit for 24 hrs and the harvest was awesome. Good luck and im going to follow this thread.

Not really, I’m not a down winder from smog, volcanoes, or atomic core meltdowns!

I can’t really say if one would be better than the other. Since I started using RO water I have been just using RO water and cal-mag.

Yeah, I think I like the cal/mag idea better because I know the PPM of my tap water, but I have no idea exactly what’s in it.

@Hellraiser just posted about this. He said that you should use cal-mag every time you water if you are using RO water.

That’s good to know, thank you. I thought that was just for coco growers, but I read the thread and you are correct!

I’m going to try some tap water and air stone overnight and see how it goes. Ppm was 40 from the tap. So I’m hoping it’ll be okay

Hi @CannaNewbie sorry to bump this old thread.
How did growing with nyc tap water work out for you? did you need to do anything with the water? are you growing in organic soil?
