I have no problem with topping autos as long as it is done before flower or any signs of pistil development. If it is a compact indica hybrid then I tend not to top. On the other hand, white widow or amnesia haze with fair amount of sativa I will [Fergus-topping]

As far as LST, this is probably the most common training method for autos.
